2. I think I'm going to get the extended battery (and the battery door). Do y'all think that might extend my battery life to at least a day of moderate to heavy use?

As for 1, I personally haven't tried the extreme battery saver setting, so I can't comment to that part of the post.
The extended battery is definitely worth the extra money. Where I work, my office is literally out in the woods in a metal building. Standing outside, I get a solid 1/2 to 2/3 signal. Inside the building, I get 1/4 to 1/3 solid signal (which I find impressive for any phone or carrier - my co-workers with AT&T can't get anything inside the building, but they show a nearly full signal outside. Yuk, yuk). So the phone is definitely working harder as I spend my day in the shop/office building. With the original battery, I was going from 5:30-6:00am to around 3:30-4:00pm with moderate data use and averaging 2 to 3 phone calls an hour (a LOT more during the show season and a little slower these few daysdays) before the battery would drop to 30%, at which point, I put it on the home charger in the office or wait for the ride home to get a charge to get through the evening. I should note that when do shows or otherwise work in town or on the road where the signal averages nearly full, my original battery would last to 30% nearly 8 or 9:00pm.
With the extended battery, while at work during the week, I'm going from the same time in the morning to 8 or 9pm before I see the battery drop to the 30% mark. I still charge the battery during the 45-minute ride home from work as I don't let the battery get below 30% before charging. But when at home or in stronger-signal areas, this phone has gone for literally 2 days before needing a charge. Yesterday, I went from 5Am until 2am t his morning (yes, a show day can be as much as 23-24-hour day!) and when I got home, I had 60% battery left. Granted, I wasn't getting a lot of phone calls, but I was still using the data as much as I ever do. So I find that kind of battery life these days pretty impressive.
I've been following your battery issues and I'm curious about the average signal strength in your area. You probably know that the phone definitely works harder in weak-signal areas.

Well, I got the extended battery yesterday. Today, after charging it completely last night, I did notice a slight improvement, but I was a bit cautious about my use (about a total of an hour of use - read a few emails, checked Facebook a couple of times, about 15 minutes of browser use and made one 15 second phone call). By 5pm, it was at 50%. I went to the gym after work, and after a little over an hour of no use, the battery was down to 30% (from 50%). By the time I got home about 30 minutes later, it was down to 20% (and I just read two short emails on the way...(only at stoplights - lol)). So, I put it on the charger about 6:30pm for the first time since unplugging it at 6:30am - so 12 hours, with very minimal use. Guess I should be happy with that, but it's not the tremendous battery life that many others are getting. Maybe when the extended battery goes through a few more charge cycles, it will improve...I hope so.
I did read online that the status and photo updates on Facebook contacts might impact battery life. It was nice to have all my FB contacts on the regular contact list, but I apparently have some very ADHD friends who update status and photos a lot, so I deleted all my facebook contacts from my regular contact list. We'll see if that helps.
I notice that "Display" uses the most battery. I have brightness set to around 10, and the timeout set for 30 seconds (although I usually turn the screen off manually). I use a dark, non-live, wallpaper. (Is having too many icons on the main home page a problem?) Is there anything else I can do to make the 'display' be less of a battery hog?
Geri, signal strength in my area is superior. I have full bars about 99% of the time. Even in the elevators at work, it drops only to about two bars.
Still looking for any other ideas to improve my battery life. I hate to think that I'm not able to use this phone, which is capable of so much, to its fullest capacity.
Thanks y'all.
