Stop launching the V Cast page!

Hi,

After the OTA upgrade, everytime I plug my phone into my XP Pro PC, it launches my browser and takes me to the V Cast page.  I want it to stop!  What do I uninstall? (It also pops up a separate message box asking if I want to install software).

Thanks,
Eric

Plug in phone from usb to computer, close all Windows that POP up, open My Computer and right click the drives the phone is on, go to Autoplay Settings, select Do Nothing and check Remember This Setting.
Done hopefully.

Hi,

That didn't work but another thread (that didn't show up when I did a search) had the answer

this was so annoying i had to find a way to fix it without disabling auto play for my whole computer.

Found this solution on another forum, works great.

 dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Type Password 000000 (that's 6 zeros)
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)

Thanks for the try,
Eric

I tried the suggestions that I found with no success.  Surely there is some way to turn this off.  I have a 64 bit computer and V cast doesn't work on it!  Where is Verizon when we need them???  GRRRRRR

Truthfully, I don't believe there is a way to stop VCast from rearing its ugly head every time you tether your cell phone to your laptop, even though it is 64 bit. I tried everything and finally gave up. So when I do tether, I just click on the "X" on the VCast and close it. I too have a 64 bit laptop and need something that won't work like I need a toothache.

The fix you see is for the Incredible. There is a fix for the X also somewhere on the board.

The custom download page will be displayed every time the device is connected until the V CAST Media Manager software is installed.

You will not be able to disable or delay the Browser from opening and displaying the custom download page.

Only the installation of the V CAST Media Manager software will stop that from occurring.

Why install something that takes up space if it doesn't work. Nah! I rather just ignore it and close it each time. Isn't much effort in that. When they come out with a manager that works with 64 bits, than I may install it.

Actually, EricE's suggestion worked for me. I had to call it twice from my phone, before I got access. On my wife's phone, I had to power it off and restart it, before it would access it.

In my opinion, we pay Verizon a lot of money for them to be forcing crap on us that we don't want! I say stop it, or my money will be spent elsewhere!

Thanks for the help Eric!!!

The following instructions worked great for me on my droid 2/PC running xp (the other one didn't work for me):

"Actually this is a pretty easy thing to do.

   1. Look to the bottom-right-hand corner of your screen near your clock and date (I'm assuming you're using a PC, not a Mac).
   2. Right-click on the Motorola symbol. You may have to click the up arrow if you're using Windows 7.
   3. Click "When phone connects, launch..."
   4. Select "Nothing"

That's it. The next time you plug your phone in it shouldn't do anything.

Enjoy the peacefulness of knowing you have full control again. "
