I just switched to the Motorola Droid X about a month ago. I didn't buy the phone new & ever since about once a day I get a text message from a 4756 number with this message //BREW:0108f3d4:GCD. I've tried replying back with STOP & it hasn't worked. Does anyone know how to stop this or what it even is? Thanks!

To get rid of this turn off the phone and remove the battery and leave it out for 2 minutes then put it back in and turn it on, after its on call *228 and select option 2. "

I have a simular situation from a messager offering discount full body messages, this spamming crap is getting to be a pain.... Verizon has a option to block numbers and messages on their site, log into account and pressBlock calls and Messages or press link supplied below after loggin in...
https://nbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/secure/messageIntercept/messageInterceptHome.action
Also click on link below and block all Premium Messages...

Thanks but the first link won't work. I already checked & there's no way to enter it to be blocked cause it's not a 10 digit number. I did do the block premium messaging but I think I already had that on my phone & it still comes through.

It isn't spam, it's due to your previous phone having a verizon service that you no longer get. I can't remember what it is though. Google it, you'll find it.

pool_shark may be right... I found this like for BB that had same error and this is the replu from Verizon to this user... http://forums.crackberry.com/showthread.php?p=5548323#post5548323
Ok, well I got a response back from Verizon support today and here's what they said...
""Ms. Smith, the "//BREW:0108f3d4:GCD " notification message you're receiving is an indication that you were previously using a mobile device that was a Media Center/Get It Now compatible device and that you previously downloaded Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) applications to your previous model phone. *Our records reflect that you were previously using the Verizon Wireless Blitz and LG Cosmos VN250 model phones on wireless number ***-***-**** prior to activating the BlackBerry Curve 8530 Smartphone you currently using on your wireless number. *The LG Cosmos VN250 and Verizon Wireless Blitz model phones are both Media Center/Get It Now compatible device and BREW compatible devices. *My name is Robert, and it will be my pleasure to provide you with additional information about the "//BREW:0108f3d4:GCD " notification message you've been receiving on your current mobile device's screen display.
Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) is an open, standard platform for wireless devices that allows multiple media messages (music, videos, games, etc) to be transmitted to a single device. *For example, our records reflect that you've previously downloaded and canceled two recent applications on the same day you activated your BlackBerry Curve 8530 Smartphone (i.e., Backup Assistant and Social Beat) as your current BlackBerry device is not a Get It Now/Media Center compatible, BREW enabled mobile device.""
From there they instructed me to do a "soft reset" on my phone by powering it off and removing the battery for one to two minutes. Afterward I was to put the battery back in, power on the phone and perform the OTA programming for roaming updates. Apparently this should solve the issue with the weird message. Now I just have to wait and see if it works.
Hope this helps someone else and again, thank you all for the replies!

I found this on another forum. I haven't tried this yet, (need to find screwdriver small enough to unscrew the back cover of the iPhone) but it seems like it would work. Let us know if it does? Or, if someone has a non-disassembly solution, please share. It said:

Thanks for the suggestions. The error comes from having subscribed to brew service like mobile email on a previous device. It’s seems you are still signed up for the brew service and it is translating messages that are scrambled because the brew platform hasn’t recognized the change in devices. I have a data base that I can put in your phone number and cancel those messages. I will PM you and get your number so I can resolve this for you.
