I have had my DROIDX for a few days and am coming off a BlackBerry World edition. There definitely is a learning curve - the DROIDX does so much more and does it so much better. I have found few things were missing on the DROIDX which I felt I needed for business. Hope these suggestions are helpful to some of you. I found these apps available in the DROIDX market app place which have greatly improved the device for me.
Advanced Task Killer (free) kills off apps you aren't using which could waste the battery. I have run my phone off a single charge in normal usage with phone calls, emails, and a bit of web browsing for two fulls days and still have 40 percent of charge left.
My Backup Pro ($4.99) is a more sophisticated backup system than Verizon offers and backups all mods you have made to the phone and your files on the phone.
Ringdroid (free) lets you make custom ringtones out of any music you have loaded onto your DROIDX. The DROIDX native ringtones are one of the worst features of the phone, in my opinion. What's great about Ringdriod is it lets you select any fragment from anywhere in a song as your ringtone, not just the opening few bars. Very slick.
Documents To Go ($14.99 for the full version - which is a discounted price you get after you have downloaded the free version, so download the free version first!!) gives you full viewing and editing of Word and Excel documents, and viewing of PDF and Powerpoint docs. The free version doesn't allow editing of Word and Excel. I can't imagine any business person not needing this app.
Btunes ($1.99) is a very nice upgrade from the native music player on the DROIDX. It allows you to sort your music in almost an infinite variety of ways (the native system is very rigid and uncustomizable). And it has a pleasant visual display. Okay - maybe this isn't a business need - unless music helps you keep your sanity when travelling.
Kindle Reader for Amazon (free) is another business nice-to-have. I was skeptical that I would be able to read a book comfortably off the DRODX screen, but after downloading a book and reading several chapters, I have found the DROIDX makes an excellent e-reader. Not as good as a full size Kindle, mind you, but then you don't have to haul an extra electronic topy with you.
Silent Toggle Widget (free) is the biggest "must have" on this list. It allows you to quickly put the phone into vibrate or silent modes with one push of a button. Unless I missed something in the directions, there is nothing that the DROIDX comes with from the factory that does this.
The number of apps out there is breathtaking. I sure there are many great ones I know nothing about, but thought I should share these to help any newbies like me get started with enjoying their DROIDX.
