Suppress unwanted app update notices?

Is there a way to indicate that I don't want app update notices on certain apps?

Of course the ones I don't want to be notified about are the built-in ones. Otherwise I would just delete the apps.

I recognize that I am not interested unless the number exceeds 10, but it's even getting annoying to find the "real" updates among the junk -- low signal-to-noise ratio.

I gave up. I have two that I managed to get in the Manual updates section, but I have 9 others that I can't get moved and just keep reminding me. I don't bother to open it unless it says there are more than 9 updates

What steps did you take to get "even 2" updates into the MANUAL update list?

The only way I have gotten six applications into the Manual Updates list on my Thunderbolt was to ignore the updates long enough that the application has progressed through several revisions.

I have also turned off the notification for all updates on the Tbolt through the Play Store settings. Then I got into the habit of checking the Play Store every week or so to see if there are applications that I DO want to update and I will manually update them.

Thanks for describing the PlayStore method. For the record, here is what I have been doing BUT it still would be nice to be able to move some of the updates to MANUAL. Does anyone know how???

I touch Settings>Accounts and Sync and then UN-CHECK both Background Data and Auto-sync. This seems to STOP all updates and backup of my contacts to my Verizon BackUp Assistant (which I no longer use because I now use Google).

Then when I want to see what updates are available I TEMPORALLY RE-check Background Data and a short time later I get a notification that updates are available. I then update those I choose to and again UN-check Background Data.

One side benefit is that you will get a notice that UN-checking Background Data and Auto-sync will save your battery so It's a win-win situation and it may be quicker than going to the PlayStore.

I get daily requests for updates to Google Books which I might sometime use, Blockbuster, and Amazon MP3, neither of which have I ever used or will I ever use. They can't be uninstalled. I posted an email to Verizon Wireless this morning with my complaint:

Please understand that your customers, at least those of us who use smartphones, almost universally loathe the constant update requests for Blockbuster. I don't use Blockbuster and I have no intention of using the service in future so I want to remove the app from my phone and I want Verizon Wireless to make that possible. And the same for those from Amazon MP3 which is another service and app that I don't use. I don't like having to do something with the annoying daily requests for updates to an app I've never used. Please let me delete it. I don't use the Google Books app because I have a Nook Color for reading books but I could conceivably use it so I don't mind updating it periodically but there may be others who don't like it and want to get it off their phone. It should be an option.

Now I expect that advertising contracts are the reason we can't delete these apps but contracts expire and can be cancelled. I urge you to cancel or not renew these contracts so we can enjoy the phones we get from Verizon Wireless without the irritation of daily update notifications for apps I neither need not want.

Turn off the notifications in the settings of the Play Store and you won't get notified of an application update again.
