If you are syncing your gMail with Outlook it shouldnt effect the web version, you should be able to still use the gMail app on your device to retrieve info from account and anything you do in Outlook should sync to gMail and you can see it on you device client..
Try making sure you have the option xhecked in gMail app..

They are the same, gMail on the Droid X and Android devices usually use their own dedicated application that grants them to all the features originally configured on the web based version.

doesn't gmail/yahoo have something with pop/smtp servers?
Yahoo uses a html or pop server access protacol but the pop access is a pay feature for premium users but Android and yahoo seem to have some kind ot html server access through a seperate interface and this is why your device emails you about sharing you email and adds the Adroid email client as a allowed app to access the servers data. Log in here to see the added access.... https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.intl=us&.src=&.partner=&.pd=us&.done=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.login.y...
Google does not required this setup because they have gave thier app a secure access gateway to be able to access the email data for your account.. I really am unsure which connection method they are using but it appears to be diffrent than the pop server setup.

This is a nice application but the main issue that they havent made it Windows 7 supported but if you are using any other versions it has been reported working well..
