I am wondering IF one gets their 2.2. update, will the droid be able to tethering

{edit for TOS violation}

It would be nice to have the same options as the Droid 2.

Thanks

VZW left it out to force hardware upgrades. If they made the older devices as good as the new product releases then many people would not need to upgrade. The lie about the Droid not having the hardware to pull it off is a joke. There are apps on the Market that will tether the Droid.

The Droid 1 is capable of both tethering and hotspot.  They are blatantly lying to their customers.  Search the market and you'll find the apps.

Or, if you're still on 2.1, update to FRG018 manually. That's the official Froyo Droid release that Verizon halted pushing OTA because of undisclosed "bugs" in it. I have it on my Droid, and my girlfriend has the OTA pushed FRG022 (which is the latest OTA update Verizon is pushing now), and as far as I can tell, the only "bug" is the option to turn on USB tethering in settings.

Tethering (3rd Party app) used to work before the update rollout...now when I tether it says everything is connected on both ends (my phone & laptop) yet the laptop can never connect to the internet.

Can't figure it out...

I just looked and in settings under "Wireless & Networks" there is a tether setting.  I had Easytether as a 3rd part app, but now I don't need it.  2.2 connected right up to my laptop and everthing seemed to work

3rd party tethering still works with 2.2. The 2.2 tethering also works but it takes you to the Verizon site to purchase 2 GB for $20. Problem is, evidently Verizon won't sell you the plan for the Motorola Droid 1.
