Temporary solution for deleting text messages for the Droid X

For everyone trying to delete the message history:

I know this is a pain in the rear-end, but I found a way that works as a temporary fix.

~Write down the number of the contact you're trying to delete from the history (ex girl/boyfriend, secret lover, whom ever)

~Delete the contact

~Re-enter the contacts info

You'll notice the history for that contact is gone and even though this is a rather long route to take to delete the history it works.

Now lets just hope there's an update soon.

You are welcome. I too stressed over this and you are correct, Motorola knows about this problem and should be posting a update, however I do not know how long that will take. The soon the better.

With all the hoopla being raised over this, there will certainly be an update to fix this fairly soon.

In the meantime, don't send anything valuable over text message (credit card info, bank info, personal info, cheating on spouse/significant other...you'd be surprised...)

If someone saw my text messages, they'd offer to buy me a life...:smileyvery-happy:

I had to buy the super private messaging app from the market. I hope they get a fix soon because that app is just for the weekends! :smileysad: I hate texting trough there.

Thanks!  It is driving me crazy.  I assume they know there is an issue there.

Help me out here.  I am not sure I understand the "Issue".  Is it the deletion of Text Messages from the Droid X or is the deletion of the Text Message "History"?  Where do I find this "History" on the Droid X.

Thanks!

Runnman,

I am not sure you if you know this or not but the Droid X stores text messages as well as phone call histories in two locations. One location for your text messages is at the location where you would normally send or receive messages, you can reply to them and if you'd like you can delete the conversation as well as the trend, however, there is a catch. Even though you have deleted the trend or conversation, if you go to your contacts and swip your finger to the left or right (I can't recall which way but you'll know when you see your message history) you'll see all you text messages. It's this location where the messages and call history can not be deleted and the only way I have found and so far the only technique that actually works, is to delete the entire contact, once the contact is deleted you will no longer have the history listed. Then you can readd the contact and repeat the process until an update is provided. I hope this doesn't confuse you too much.

Cheers

Suzukster129...A very nice explanation!  Thanks!

Swipe "Right" to view the History and swipe "Left" to view Contacts A-Z.  I did not know History was there and now I see the Issue and it is not good!  They got to fix that!

Thanks again for the Heads Up!  Even with this issue, the Droid X is a "keeper"!

Thanks for the info.  I did the swipe thing to bring up the history, but there is an option to clear it after it comes up.  So I hit clear and it seemed to work.  Is everyone saying that still isn't clearing the history somehow?  Because after I hit clear I can't see any history anywhere.  Thank you.

I just noticed something else.  On my previous post I had gone directly to contracts and did the swipe thing and I did see the history, but it also had a clear option and when I hit clear it seems to clear the history.  But also, when I deleted a text thread before even going into contacts, the history wasn't even there to see.  I must be missing something because it seems to clear everything out(textwise) for me by just deleting the text thread directly in the text messages area because after that when I go to contacts and try the swipe thing there is no history there at all.  Thank you.
