Tethering and Music

So i've had my Droid for about 10 days. The sales guy at the store sold me on the tethering option stating that it is great internet service for any laptop...super fast, yada yada. So he puts the tethering app on the phone for me, which was free, and it works except it won't show any secure sites. Like it will nav through news and general sites but anything I need to log into it won't work.

Then there is the issue of music. He sold me on the fact that all music and ringtone downloads on these phones is FREE. Well, the music app he downloaded worked for the first three days. All i had to do was search, click, and download, and the song was on my phone for free. Now that app has stopped working.

Was my sales guy full of crap?? Or am I just new to this?? Thanks all!!!

Full of it to a certain point.

Tethering app that he gave you is a free version that does not allow any secure websites.

If you want the full version, then you have to pay for it.

There are free apps for ringtones and such, you would have to search the marketplace for a pretty large selection.

Music, I cant comment on that one, but google the app and I am sure you can find the info.

Perhaps someone else will chime in with some more info.

Thanks for the help Rob. The music app was MusicWizard. Literally, the first two days I downloaded songs like crazy. Then the following day I thought of a song so I followed the same procedure I had been using and when I clicked the "search" icon nothing loaded. It was a blank page. Thinking it was a fluke I tried it again the next day, still nothing. I guess I don't get why it worked and then stopped. Hopefully someone has some insite into this.

Ok, on the tethering. I think I did see where you had to pay like $9.95 for the full features of the app, like to access secure sites. I wonder if that is a one time fee?? I'm trying to get rid of my $59.99/mo. I am paying for VZ's internet through the USB modem.

Thanks again!!

ha, so the sale rep installed a 3rd party tethering app that is against your TOS to use?  Currently there isn't a "legal" verizon sanctioned means to tether on the Droid so just watch your usage and you should be ok though

Should be one time fee... but like the response above, I guess its against the TOS.

My apologies but what is "TOS"? I assume you're referring to the service thru the USB modem?

ToS = Terms of Service... it is a one time fee for that app.

I am a little nervous to cancel the VZ USB internet service and just use the tethering. I wish I knew someone who successfully uses that on a regular basis. I am a college student so I HAVE to have internet and it HAS to be reliable at all times. I was just hoping to save a little money by using tethering. A friend of ours has a Blackberry through Spring and tethering it to their PC is their home internet service and it works great.

It works just fine... you need to be careful not to go crazy on it though. If it shows you using 10gb a month Verizon will know something is up and could charge you for it, but if you are moderate nothing will probably happen.

On average  I use about 1500MB per billing cycle.
