Text message delayed several days if picture attached

Hello.  I have a Motorola Droid Mini.  I have noticed then when someone sends me a text message with a picture attached, I immediately get a badge notification that I have new message, but I don't actually receive the message until about 2 days later.  When I go to view messages, there are none, but the new message badge remains "1" until I actually receive the message and can view it.

This didn't happen with my old HTC Incredible.  Is there some setting I need to change?

You have to enable your data and not be on a wi-fi connection for the picture/video to load and show up

Thanks for your reply.  I thought of that and enabled my data connection for a short time, but the message didn't load.  I'll try a longer period next time.
