Text messages resent automatically?!

I turned my phone off last night and when I turned it back on this morning, I received a text message from my brother indicating that I had just sent him ten old text messages. Sure enough, when I managed to look back through my messages, several people re-received their text messages.
What causes this? I just got the phone on Friday so I am rather new to the Droid format.
I'm hoping for a solution or this thing is going back!
