Text notification ringtone

So I've downloaded some ringtones and have no problems with phone calls and email notifications but whenever I get a text message, I first hear the ringtone followed by droid tone.  How can I get rid of the droid tone?

Hi Jk9999,

Has this issue been resolved? I apologize about the steps listed, I have some other steps for you.

1) Press text messages

2) Press Menu

3) Click Message Settings

4) Make sure Notifications is checked

5) Click Select Ringtone

6) From there, you are able to select your ringtone, and you can change it from the "Droid" sound

Please let us know if you need additional assistance. Thank you!

I'm gonna guess wild... It sounds to me as though you have installed a 3rd party messaging app and have not disabled the notification tone of the stock app that came on the phone. I think the default tone for the stock app is that Droid tone.

Disable notifications in the stock app and you'll not hear that Droid notification again.

If this isn't the case, let us know and we'll try again.

To clarify... If my guess is right, you are hearing the notifications from both apps as they receive a text. Installing a 3rd party messaging app doesn't disable the stock app, but as I mentioned before, you can disable the notifications from the stock app.

No ignorance shown, no worries.

Open the stock Android messaging app (in the app drawer, look for messaging). Open that app and you'll see an icon on the page that, I believe, says text messaging. Open this and you'll see the list of messages.(just like whatever 3rd party app you are using.

Click the menu button at the bottom left of the phone. A list of options will appear. Scroll down to "Notifications" and un-check the box. Hit the home button to exit the settings page and you should be set.

Oops, forgot one step...

When you press the menu button at the bottom of the phone, a little window will open at the bottom of the screen. Press "messaging settings " and this will open the settings menu.

Sorry,

Well that was easy enough!  Now just have to wait until I receive another text to see if it works!  Thanks so much!

Well the suggestion didn't work.  It did the exact opposit.  It removed my ringtone I have chosen and still said "Droid" when I received a text.  Still looking for a solution.

jk9999, I'm sorry the information provided didn't work but I will try and provide some other information to assist you. Listed below are directions to uncheck the default ringtone that plays the sound Droid on your phone when text messages come in.

1) Press text messages

2) Press Menu

3) Click Message Settings

4) Text messages

5) Uncheck Default Ring-Tone (Droid)

At this point you can select the ringtone you want to be played for your message alerts. Once you choose your ringtone, simply power cycle your phone to perform a soft reset.

Okay, let's get this question out of the way, since we're not sure, or I'm not, anyway.

Have you downloaded another text messaging app such as Handcent or GO messaging, that you are aware of? Or ae you using the stock messaging app that was on the phone when you bought it?

The question is pertinent because you are getting a double-notification from somewhere. And that's what we gotta figure out.

The description you posted in the quote above indicates that you are in the notifications area of the sounds settings of the phone. The text messaging app will have its own notifications settings separate from this area. You'll have to open the messaging app, locate the settings, and then the notification settings in the messaging app. This is all aside from the phone settings. Which I think you did. If so, go back here and set the notification tone you want, then we'll try to find out where that Drooooiiiiid tone is coming from.

If this is getting too hairy for you, I'd go back to the Verizon store, if you are near one, and get them to fix it for you. It's a simple fix, but you might have to look in 2 , maybe even 3 places for the solution.

Let us know, I think we can figure it out eventually...

As far as I know I'm using the default text messaging that is on the phone.  I have not downloaded any other text messaging app unless it happened without my knowledge.I have downloaded another ringtone app, but the tone I've chosen for text messages is the xylobip from Android systems.  I opened the messaging app and then the settings from it, selected text messaging and came up with the same setting choices in my previous post.....the hours I work and my location make it difficult to get by a Verizon store which is why I'm reaching out to this forum.  Any other suggestions?

Yeah, I hope we don't run you around too bad while we try and figure this out... :smileyhappy:

First, I suggest going back to the phone settings, then sounds and scroll down to the notifications section. A little further down, there's several choices of notification choices to turn or off, such as low battery, SD card, call connect, roaming, and maybe a couple more. Make sure all those are unchecked.

I'm running out of ideas from here. Hopefully, I'll think of something else and here's hoping someone else will have some ideas, too.

The last idea I do have is to do a factory reset on the phone. That's a drastic step, but we might need to if all else fails.

I think its the Roaming Option Gerio....  It affects that messages like it does the calls, everytime a alert is announced it would give the alert sound also..
