The Proper way to use the keyboard / Instruction Manual?

Today I purchased a brand new Droid X replaced my Storm two. I thought I would have an easier time using the key board to send my text message but it has been very difficult. I'm not sure what is the proper way to hold your droid and presing the keyboard. The top two rolls of the keyboard I don't have any problems but using the bottom half has been very frustrating.

As an example, when I need a letter "v", the "c" and "h" is selected. In other words my thumb touches both letters. The keyboard is a lot better than the Storm two but I just have trouble adjusting.

Next I am trying to use the MP3 to search for a song, download it and use it for my ring tone. I simply don't know how to do it. I am totally lost in

What I need is a Droid X instruction book with pictures or tuturiol on how to use the Droid X. Is there one available anywhere.

BTW, be sure to check out the Swype keyboard. While it does take some getting used to, it's a fantastic way to type. I'll never go back to the regular keyboard on my X.

I totally agree with Gerio, Swype, once you learn it, is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I have seen Swype. It looks cool, but alas it is not available for my phone. Therefore I am enjoying SwiftKey for my typing needs.

+1 for SWYPE .... once you get used to it you'll likely never go back to normal keyboard ... and least that's what I found ... I only tend to use the keyboard typing method for special words or chars. that SWYPE doesn't get...

If you're eligible to upgrade, the Droid X is a great device.....

Yeah I know. I was letting the OP know that there are other keyboard choices out there if Swype doesn't work for them.

Besides I could have gotten the Swype Beta if I had known about it in time. :smileysad:

If you go to the Swype website, there's a place where you can give them your email address and they will notify you when they open up the beta again. I did it about nine months ago because I wanted "Swype" on my phone. Later I ended up getting the Droid X and it had it pre-stalled.

They open up the beta periodically after making improvements and bug fixes to the previous versions. I don't think it will ever come out of beta because if it did, there would be no incentive for the carriers to pay to pre-install it on their phones. Also, being a beta version, they're using you as a testing ground and it also releases them from any liability. That being said I wouldn't hesitate to download and install it on any phone of mine because by now, they've got it pretty well designed.

I agree with all of Gerio's post.

I will add that there is a Droid X for Dummies" book if you are looking for a pretty in depth book.

But, the best advice is either Swype........or Swift Key.

Swype gets a bit of getting used to. But, once you do.... whoa!

Swift key is an excellent "predictive keyboard" app

Ummm...Choices

Go to the swype, sign up and hope to get chosen. Then have to install swype beta with the third party apps allowed. Adjust my settings as needed and change the input method

ORWhen SwiftKey was in beta, go to the market, search for swiftkey, install, settings, imput method.

I choose...SwiftKey. easier to deal with. Maybe I will try Swype on my next phone

As it turns out, the full version of SwiftKey was my first official paid app after having my phone since November. I love SwiftKey and its predictive typing!
