Motorola will probably provide that info on their Droid Product Support page as they did for the 2.0.1 update. There's also Google's Android 2.1: How It'll Change Your Phone which appeared on PC World and Moto Droid’s 2.1 Update Coming Soon which appeared on Phandroid.

Nice I get my Moto Droid on Wednesday. It will be nice as I probally wont notice much of a difference good/bad other than what I read on the forums.
From what I've been reading so far, 2.1 on the Moto Droid will not include live wallpapers, nor will it include the cool 3-D applications cube the N1 has. It will contain the same weather and news widgits though.
Do people get this excited etc when they get a windows update?
Are Windows updates something to get excited about. I mean it's just a different way to completely mess up your computer and open it up to hackers. However, people do get this excited about other Linux updates. Oh yeah. Gotta love the 6 month schedule.
Sounds kind of boring . I'm not expecting a huge leap forward but maybe some bigger issues addressed.
I'm a little aggrivated that Google Googles will be pre-installed and I can't get rid of it without rooting. Great don't give us the cool eyecandy but load us up with all the worthless junk you can. Can't get enough of the worthless junk I can't get rid of. No no please give me more of it.

C'mon Logic, you're my man but I think that was a fair question considering this is an Android forum and not a Motorola forum. All the subject field says is "The news we been waitin' for". Granted it is clearly stated that the update is for the Moto unit once you open the thread, but I think it was just a general question to anyone about information on the Eris.
Remember, us Eris suckers are still on 1.5 so any glimmer gets us going!

I'm guessing an issue was found late in the Q/A process that Motorola decided to fix. Or you could go with one of the many conspiracy theories floating around that Motorola is evil, mean, uncaring, etc., etc. etc.

It was because they released the notes too early. A mod announced it on the forums over at motorola.com.
True, but the OTA update has not begun as far as I can tell and the week is pretty much over. Coincidence?
HTC did announce the Eris, along with their other Hero series phones, will be updated to 2.1, though no timeline.
It seems Moto jumped the gun announcing their 2.1 update, probably without consulting Big Red. My GUESS, VZW has it in a test phase.
"Update coming soon"....seriously? Why not just say "Update coming eventually...maybe" At least that would be honest. I don't even have an Android device yet, but I'm getting tired of VZW dangling the carrot in front of us.

At least they outlined their plans. Better than speculation and rumors. And give VZW a break, they depend on Motorola to prepare the package to ensure all the bugs have been worked out. Lets just sit back and patiently wait. I'm sure the wait will be worth it.
According to Matt, one of the Forums Managers of the Motorola forum:
"... And in this particular case, I would say the reason we have "soon" there for Droid vs. "Q1 2010" is because Q1 makes it sound like it could be late March and we expect it much sooner than that."
