Time to Change the Sticky at the top of this forum?

I think that we are past the delivery issues with the Droid X. As far as I know, anyway.

I respectfully submit to the Mods that the following information (copied and pasted from a response to a past by Wildman)  be posted at the top as a sticky, named possibly as "2.2 Froyo issues and solutions" or something to that effect

"This has been verified as being the best way to stop a number of the issues that has developed after doing Froyo update, the system seem to keep the 2.1 app and settings during installation process and this seems to cause a number of incompatible issues with a number of devices.... Follow this process after completing Froyo Update to avoid problems..

Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.

1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy

2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone

3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information

4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"

5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.

This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues."

Or possibly, just post this entire thread by Wildman..

http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Minimize-Droid-X-Issues-After-Froyo-Update/td-p/2965...

And finally, it would be helpful to add this info from the Moto employee regarding updates from Moto to address other issues with Froyo..

"If you have already upgraded to 2.2 for Droid X, you have certainly found some great new capabilities. Most owners appear to be having untroubled operation, but  a few owners also found new issues. While the incidence of these these issues is low, we want to provide some positive news for those who might be experiencing them.

Here are some of the known issues raised by forums members, with some information about each. It is not intended to be a complete list at this time -- there are many more improvements in the works. I’ll update this list as information becomes available.

  • Stuck on Moto logo after reboot – this was tough on a very few owners. Sorry about that. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release. If you are still experiencing this issue, click here.

  • Random rebooting – while there always seem to be new conditions that can cause an electronic device to panic, we do have improvements coming that address and eliminate identified panic states. They will be distributed in a future software release.

  • WiFi connection and stability – improvements in WiFi have been developed, to address several problem areas. They will be distributed in a future software release.

  • Battery Manager “force close” errors – under some circumstances, pressing the battery icon under Menu > Settings > Battery Manager results in a forced close error. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release.

  • Media won’t play  includes “sorry the player does not support this type of audio file," custom ringtone stop working, video won’t play, etc. A reboot will restore full media function, but not permanently. We believe we have identified the cause of these errors. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release.

  • Music files cutting off the final four seconds or so – a solution has been developed. It will be distributed in a future software release."

I truly believe that a sticky with this information would be a big help to those looking for advice and answers to the various Froyo issues (that, fortunately, so far I have not been afflicted with (except for that funny issue with the accessibility issue that apparently NO ONE, including myself read about in the what???......THE USER GUIDE!...:smileyvery-happy:
Thank you,

I second this proposition. Especially the first one, save me from getting a Fascinate.

I too agree. The blog by Wildman is great and should replace the outdated Sticky that's on there now.

Good one, Ann.

How is that Eris holding up, BTW? My girlfriend's cousin won't let her Eris out of her sight! She thinks my X is cool, hates her husband's Blackberry, and is trying to talk my girlfriend into getting an Eris they found on Ebay. Her Eris rules!

(Girlfriend won't let her Razr out of her sight. Well, I can keep trying, LOL).

My Eris? Only minor occasionally glitches (force closes or bad apps) and just recently found one tiny dead spot in the LCD screen (no big thing). Biggest thing is I have NOT had to pull my battery in months! I think it was more my fault the last time it happened.

The main reason I think my phone is so problem free is I did a factory reset soon after 2.1 OTA update.

Btw I went from a Motorola W385 to the Droid Eris. Big learning curve, but I enjoyed the trip. LOL

I see they have dropped the old sticky, but there is no new sticky to replace it. :smileysad:

All of the aforementioned Froyo update problems except for boot freeze. I have done the full factory reset and to no avail. More specifically the issues that I hate the most are the music player not acknowledging files. The ringtone not working if music is selected. The same issue with the alarm. The kicker was when I was at a memorial for my grandfather in law it deleted the video of the service. So until I can get a new phone I shall loathe this piece of junk known as Droid X.

Wow.

I hate to offer ideas or suggestions when a family passing is involved. The deed is done. And I understand EXACTLY your feelings. Been there, done that with some of my late Father's music files on an external hard drive. Priceless and irretrievable files of his last few performances. Gone.

With all that going on, I'd get another warranty replacement phone. It would be (nearly) free, and if nothing was any better, then you'll know where to go from there.

If you haven't done this yet, check your SD card on a computer to see if that video file might still be there.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

Take care, Geri O

Usually the reset option will work, but it isn't guaranteed to work for everything.  Question, when you reset did you try running device for a couples of days with no apps installed but stock apps to make sure your issue isn't a incompatible app?  I recently noted a bug in a app that I always used but since the recent update the app  was causing my freezing issue I been having

Also the problem with the video vanishing or being corrupted usually happens when you mount the device as Mass Storage and system wants to do error check, I can not express this more that this usually isn't the device issue but windows

I did run my phone app free for a while, the music, alarm, ringtone issue started immediatey. The camera is just plain unstable. The phone wasn't connected to a computer before it corrupted the file. I know these are all motorola UI issues as they have stated on their forums, but the phone worked fine before 2.2 and now all the issues arise. I basically just use my phone as a phone now and have no issues, but its a waste having a smart phone when I could easily just have the freebie fone that does the same thing.

I totally understand your frustration and 2.2 does have a number of issues that can be worked through but there is a few situations that does become a pain. I hope they decide to release a bug fix soon myself because I am starting to experiance a  issues that I am starting to get tired of figuring out.

The most frustrating thing I've experienced so far is the random rebooting, and it seems to be getting worse.  Today, it rebooted at least 10 times.  Thankfully, it only takes a minute or so to come back to full functionality, but it is troubling to wonder if it will reboot every time I pick it up.  I removed some apps - including the one non-market app - and I've heard that "Weather Bug" and "The Weather Channel" apps might be culprits, so I uninstalled them, but the phone rebooted three times since then.

I've read that Motorola is aware of this and a fix should be out "soon".  Any idea when "soon" is??

Since Motorola allegedy validated the existence of this problem, I'm hoping that it will be fixed.  However, dependability and reliability are very important to me, and if these reboots continue it could make me consider another smartphone (although I really like all that the Droid X has to offer.)  Other than a 'factory reset', any other ideas that I could try?

BTW, while typing this post, my phone - which is just sitting face up on the desk here - randomly rebooted.

The rebooting issue usually always goes back to a incompatible application installed, the developers are working to make the apps more and more compatible but some have not got there yet, this is one of the issues that can come from a major OS upgrade, the more the changing of the codes, the more the incompatible issues..

I would suggest removing everything that isn't stock from device and then slowly install apps and test for a few days because you are not just working with one app compatible issues, sometime other apps causes other apps to malfunction.   I love iHeartRadio but I have been forced to stop using it since the 2.2 update and Verizon deciding to release there own version of the app, the app causes my device to crash alot, after uninstalling all my lockup and reboot issue stopped.
