To Those Who Don't Think Task Killers Are Good.....

good luck with 2.2!!!! i know some think they are useless or even harmful to your device (for the record, i disagree....but that's a different debate). since i got 2.2 ota, everytime i kill tasks there are AT LEAST 15 running. previously it was anywhere from 4-7. now, i kill all (except what's on my ignore list) and 30 minutes later i kill all and it shows 15 were running. not sure what the deal is or even if it's a big deal, but if you don't want dozens of apps running CONSTANTLY...get your app killer!

15. Uninstall your Task Killers

There's no point bothering with a task killer of any sort on Android 2.2, as Google has changed its code to stop apps killing other apps. There's a manual override hidden in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, where you're able to Force Stop a running app if you must. But it'll be easier and less stressful to simply surrender control and learn to trust Google.

i'm still killin them!!! lol....i understand that they use "very little resources," but they are still using resources. and i understand that android will end them "when it needs the resources" but i'd rather kill them when it "could use" the resources. not a big deal to me, but i just had 24 apps running....none of which were started by me. and that's right after i turned on the device...lol. now i am seeing complaints by people that their battery life is actually shorter since 2.2? is it possibly because they have 30 apps runnin constantly? again, i know they use up very little resource....but it HAS TO have some effect on the battery right?? i'm not a tech guy so maybe i'm way off base here?

Consider the resources your phone uses to start those apps back up all the time. Consider the resources your task killer uses. Also, apps get timed out and use less resources after running a while. If you kill the apps and they restart they'll be running full power at every startup until they get killed again.
I used to run one all the time but once I uninstalled it I didn't notice a huge difference. A simple reboot once a day will completely wipe all the apps sitting stagnant.

yeah....i have noticed as the day has gone on that fewer are running. i was just a bit surprised when i first checked this morning (and immediately posted this) and there were TWENTY FOUR!!!! lol.....then whenever i checked there were at least 15. now that the phones been on for about 5-6 hours, when i check there are only 4 or 5 runnin. maybe it's in my head....i originally had atk and then read up on the technology and uninstalled for a couple weeks....then reinstalled because i swear it seemed like i couldn't get through a half day when i uninstalled it. i'll leave it alone for now and see how the battery life goes. not seeing very promising reviews so far. i'm hopin it's just a handful of buggy updates or that some of the people don't realize just how much more they are playin around with it today, because most of the comments are a poorer life.

Let me clarify a little. The apps not used don't necessarily close when idle but they do use little to no resources after a while. Making them harmless to the battery.

as long as they are showing 0 processes they will not drain your battery.
