To keep or not to keep? That is the question! 30 days almost up!

For those of us who where first day purchasers of the Droid on 11/6, our 30 days is but a week away. Anyone deciding to return the Droid? Why or why not?

I like the Droid but am not in love with it. I'm looking at various applications (like Internet radio) to overcome the fact the original novelty has worn off. It is interesting that there is a rumored upgrade coming 12/11 - after the 30 day guarantee expires for many of us. There is also a rumor about a Christmas release of the 1GHz Snapdragon Android 2.0 phone.

Oh well - to keep or not to keep? T minus 7 and counting!

I'm keeping the Droid, I love it! I think it will only get better in time, with the few adjustments & updates that come in the future.

I had to return it after 3 days because I was charging the phone 2 times a day and I only used it for text/IM. Even though the apps were nice, I missed my blackberry messenger and the way email works on blackberry.

Like you, I am up in air about returning mine. I'd be going back to the Storm 1, YUCK!!!!! Rumors of the HTC Passion/Dragon with it's 1GHZ processor have me drooling. My stumby fingers do have a hard time with the physical keyboard. I'm not sure f I'm "in love" with the phone or just the OS. I've had windows phones, Backberry phones, and now Android. The Android OS runs circles around the other 2, imho......

I'd like to read other peoples' thoughts. The rumors are for 2 upgrades. 1 around 12/11 and the other about 1/22. But those are rumors, and we all know Big Red doesn't tell their employees anything until it's ready to launch. (And for good reason, I might add)

I am also not a fan of the keyboard. I think I would like a slimmer phone (like the Apple) without the bulk produced by the physical keyboard. I would also expect problems might develop over time with the keyboard mechanism. I do not see myself leaving Verizon as everyone I call out of state are on Verizon and the Verizon 3G coverage on the US east coast is far better than ATT.

I strongly agree with you on the keyboard. I will be returning mine for 2 main reasons which may be fixed down the road. But i cant take the risk. One is terrible echo on the other end which has my wife refusing to call(which may not be a bad thing)lol, second when i have it in the car dock an incoming call is in portrait mode. I hate that. But i will go back to my bb curve until the dragon/ passion comes out, or maybe an upgrade for the eris to 2.0.

Returned it... 3 times. To me, it seems that motorola made a poor quality phone with REALLY cool features. I enjoyed the internet, as well as some of the applications. I liked the way texting was like having a conversation (vs. having to open each one individually).

I loved going shopping while in the docors waiting room, and checking my facebook page.

With all that said, I could not keep calls from going mute when I was talking with someone else. This was the point that I had no choice but to return.

I am back to my LG Envy 2... with no data plan.

I picked up the HTC Droid Eris and have been debating the same thing myself. I was planning on getting the BB 8530 but was talked into the Droid by some friends in the IT world. I've never used a BB though so I don't know how I'd like it compared to the Droid anyway. I'm so conflicted. This is one of those times I wish I was still a kid and my parents made up my mind for me. LOL

Still on the fence also. Last couple of phones have been Windows Mobile, love the Android operating system. My 2 major issues I have are the pop email handling where emails just seem to disappear from the phone after a few days and MMS texting of pictures just doesn't seem to work at all or they show up the next day?? I am sure both of these can be fixed with a firmware update but don't know when that will happen. My only other complaint is of course the physical keyboard which I would like to use, but have all but forgotten about because I hate using it.

I have the Eris and I think its great!

PROS

I receive all MMS and SMS normally
My email sync with Gmail is fine (have sync set to 4 days)
My Contacts sync is fine for the most part... tho sometimes it takes a few hours for edits even if I manually sync
I do not get forced closed errors with any stock or popular application
I do not get shutdowns
My camera works fine for a phone camera
My video works fine for a phone camera
7 screens
Great HTC widgets like MP3 player, pictures, twitter, etc (except agenda app)
Speaker phone works well
calls are clear
Android 2.0 (or 2.1 rumor?) coming sometime soon

CONS

Battery needs to be charged nightly or trickle charged to a PC if I use it alot
Calendar agenda app (HTC) reports "All Day" events 1 day ahead

Only a few more days to decide. I am leaning towards keeping the Droid. I love the screen. No contest there. I still do not like the keyboard but I have come to not hate it. I have actually tried to use it for all keying and am getting better at it. I can use the virtual keyboard in landscape mode but the virtual keyboard in portrait mode is to small for my fingers - I am forever hitting the wrong letter. As I put more applications on the phone it becomes more interesting (the latest being Pandora) . I have a wireless network at home and one at my office and I have set both up. So I am connected to a wireless network at home and at work. I recently purchased a car charger and "extra battery" so the Droid can most always be charged. I have a stereo speaker dock for my iPod and I purchased an audio cable (from Radio Shack) to connect the Droid to the speaker dock so when I am home I can listen to Pandora on the stereo speakers. Does it sound like I am trying very hard to convince myself to keep the phone?

Android 2.0 is of another interest to me. I had a Windows Mobile phone and actually wrote a program for it. I am a software developer but have practically no experience with phone application development. I have started reading the Android documentation and I think I want to try and code some applications for the Droid.

I see that many are waiting for the mysterious Passion phone. Do I take the Droid back and wait? I would only be interested in the Passion if it uses the Android 2 OS. Seems to be some confusion as to if and when it comes out what OS would it use. I did not have to extend my plan to get the Droid (I was due an upgrade form last year on one of the phones on the plan). So in July my current plan is up and I will have 2 phones on my plan that would be eligible for an upgrade. Maybe I stay with the Droid for now and see what happens in the next 6 months. I doubt I would have any trouble selling the Droid if I decide to upgrade in July.

OK I am going to keep the Droid. I just convinced myself. Thanks to everyone for being so patient. Maybe I need to sleep on it and decide tomorrow. I'll think I'll sleep on it and see how I feel tomorrow morning. No sense making a rash decision. I still have a few days. I'll probably keep it but then again ...

Well tomorrow 12/5 is R-Day (return or not to return).

I wish the rumors about the Passion would just go away so I can keep the Droid and be happy. Overall I am fairly satisfied and am actually using the physical keyboard - the engineers who designed must have fingers the size of a pencil point. I think I'll keep the Droid. But maybe I need to sleep on it tonight and see how I feel tomorrow morning.

Anyone else struggling with the return-or-not-to-return decision?
