Transfer Address Book from Droid to Droid X

Is there an easy way to do this.  Like connect USB to Droid.  Copy address book file to desktop.  Copy file from Desktop to Droid X.  Are the 2 file systems the same?  Are the folders the same?

is your address book google contacts? or phone contacts?

google contacts will be imported when you add your gmail address to the phone

you can do phone contacts with backup assistant.

for manual, export contact to the sd card, copy backup files to the pc, copy to sd card on new phone, and import

The original Motorola Droid didn't support the use of Backup Assistant.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Just log into you Google Account and the contacts information should sync automatically, also I would stay away from Backup Assistance because it usually causes havic  Google backups contact inforation better in my opinion.

I have back up assistant on my phone but have never needed to use it. I have also read that backup assistant is not the best. With that said, can you be more specific on how to use Google to back up contacts? I have all my email addresses through Google but none of of my contacts are in there. How do I backup all my contacts with Google? Or are my contacts already automatically being backed up with Google? I know to get rid of backup assistant I need to reset the phone and not select it but haven't done that yet.

Well when you log into Google email through the gMail app on your device all your contacts should be automatically copied into Google email account, are you using the gMiail app or did you set your email through messaging app because you have to use the gMail app for this to function, then all should backup automatically and update phone any time you make any changes to contact information.

I click on the stock gmail app that is on the phone, not sure what or how to get email through the messaging app? My gmail is always logged on so I never have to log in. I know when I log into my gmail on a pc I only see my email addresses and not my phone contacts. Am I missing something?

You are a lucky sole but BA has been nothing but headaches for a large amount of users, read a number of forums... Even Verizon acknowledge it has issues.

All you have to do is open app and input user name which is email address and password, you use the same information that you use when you log into web version.....  Once you log into this app all contact information will automatically transfer to Google account.

I always just click the gmail (envelope with red M). Is this the app you are talking about? I never have to log in as it always has me logged in. If this is correct, how do I tell if it has backed up my contacts?

Yes that sounds like the correct app.... You may want to try checking sync option...

1. Open My Accounts

2. Select gMail account from list

3. Make sure all 3 options is checked under sync option.

Strange yes. I have 33 contacts and backup assistant captures them all. Google only capture 29 of them and don't know why. Like I said, all my contacts that have email addresses Google syncs. It's some of the contacts that only have a phone number that Google is not syncing. It does sync one contact that I only have a phone number for and not an email though. So yes I am confused as well.

Contacts entered as "phone contact" and not a "Google" contact will not show up in Google contacts.  I had a few contacts that were entered as "phone contacts" and I had to reenter them into Google and then deleted the phone only version for them to show and be backed up (should be an easier way).  I now enter all new contacts as Google contacts.  Look at the contacts not being backed up by Google and I bet the linked profile will show "Phone Contacts: xxxxxxx".  I still have all the Verizon #xxxx numbers as phone only; no reason to back them up via Google.

Bingo, you are correct. The ones that don't sync show linked profile as phone contact only and not Google. Do I need to go online to my Google account and add them? And do this for future "phone contacts" only?

Not sure what you mean here:

Thank you community for posting very good troubleshooting tips and suggestions. :smileyhappy:  It's very much appreciated. While syncing, your phone contacts not already associated with your GMAIL account will not sync to GMAIL. If you want this information on your GMAIL, please enter the contact criteria for that person in GMAIL. This may cause a duplicate entry of the same person on your device. If so, you can delete the information that was entered in the phone directly.  Keep in mind, your phone book information is saved through our Backup Assistant, if you have already ran the application. Yes, this is what I do and it works for me.

The #xxxx are the #BAL, #DATA, #MIN, #PMT, #Warranty Center entries that get loaded either when you do a *228 option 1 or a factory reset.  I forget which.  I usually just delete them from my phone, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
