Transferring Music from 64-bit Windows 7 to Droid X

Hello! I am having difficulty transferring music from my laptop to my phone.

I cannot download the MediaShare software since it is for 32 bit Windows.

So I am trying to use the USB option--plugging in the phone, clicking USB from the drop down option. Problem is that my laptop tells that the USB is not supported. So, when I am looking for my phone to show up (as a removeable device) so that I can drag and drop music onto the phone, it does not show up.

The only reason I switched to Verizon was for this phone because of the media and good coverage, and now it's the one thing I can't use. I went to the Verizon store, but they didn't have the same version of windows as I do, so it worked as normal and showed up.

I am just not sure what to do or how to make it work. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thank you so much!

Does your X shows available memory in the 15-16 gig range?

No. It keeps telling me it is "Unavailable" or "Your SD card is busy".

It is just showing the internal memory, despite the fact that I have the 16G SD card in it.

I am in the same boat as you as far as no 64 bit apps. I have not yet tried to move files from PC to phone yet because I'm not sure how to do it.

Do I need to use a USB cable, or are there Bluetooth or Wi-Fi apps for this too?

When you first plugged the phone into the USB port, did you let the Motorola USB software install fully before trying to open the phone in Explorer?

Also, do you get a Motorola program that starts up and shows 4 options?

it might be as simple as the software did not install correctly, and is trying to run tying up USB port.

i know that it works on WIndows 7 64bit, because I have it set up on my desktop and connect to the phone every night.

another hint.. when you are able to connect to the phone, and you want to transfer mp3's over to the phone, You will get a window asking if you want to convert before copying... do not do that... it will convert them to wma files, then copy them to the Droid. If that happens, then RingDroid will not be able to convert any songs to a ringtone.

OK I got mine to work with USB on Windows 7/64 bit and Media Share. You have to follow the steps exactly and do not connect via USB until you get to that step that tells you to. If you connect the USB cable before going through the Media Share process then you will get SD card errors. To avoid confusion I'll write it out step by step.

1 - Open Media Share

2 - Press "Start"

3 - Select "Computer"

4 - Select "copy"

5 - Select "USB"

6 - "Next"

7 - NOW connect the cable. You should get a message about connecting with USB mass storage

8 - "Next"

9 - Enable Memory Manager for "USB Mass Storage" if not enabled

10 - Open Windows file manager on PC

11 - "Next"

12 - In Windows, Drag and drop content between PC and phone

13 - Files will now copy

14 - Done!

Once you have set up the file sharing in Media Share then all you have to do after that is plug the phone into the computer and it will connect. Then use Windows to move files from the computer to the phone or phone to computer etc.. You don't have to go through Media Share every time.

Do not try the V Cast Media Manager, use the Motorola Media Link on you 64 bit system. Works better. Exactly like it should, 32 bit or 64bit (x86 actually)
