Trouble with Touchscreen

I am having trouble with my touchscreen. All the time. There is a rectangle (about half an inch long and stretching across the width of the screen) about an inch and a half from the top of the screen on my Droid Charge that does not react to touch. It overlaps exactly over the bar that says "Download" in the Marketplace (I have to switch to auto-rotate, rotate the screen, and then touch download every time). It messes with my angry birds (The horror!). It screws with the drag down function for the top tool-bar. It makes zooming in and out on Google maps and other apps difficult or impossible. Here is the ironic part: When I call Verizon (and attempt to navigate through the impossible mess of auto-mated "customer service") I cannot even get to a human being because I cannot type in the 4 in my phone number when it asks for it!!!!!

I am on a college campus with no car and getting to the store is difficult. I just want some closure, maybe some other people who have had the same problem. I would love to know if anyone has found a way to fix the issue.

I know that it is not my screen protector.

You did not say so I need to ask: Did you hold your finger on it (the rectangle) for 5-7 seconds without lifting your finger? Usually when you do this it wiggles and a trash can appears at the bottom middle of your display screen. Below the trash can it will say Remove. When the trash can appears if you keep you finger on the screen you usually can drag it (the rectangle) to the trash can and it's gone. It has been removed! Try this. It might fix your problem.

There is no widget or anything there. It is just a section of screen that doesnt respond to touch. The colors, etc. look regular in this region, it is just on any screen, in any app, this little chunk doesn't work right.

But yea, I did try doing what you suggested. It didn't do anything.

can you post a screen shot? while holding down the return key press the home key. a screen capture .png file will be saved to your directory.

this sounds like a 3rd party app (or some VZW bloatware) stuck on your screen.

does this appear on all screens, or just one of them? are you using another launcher screen like Go Launcher?
