UPDATE 2.3.3, GOOGLE MAPS ALWAYS ON. CAN'T TURN OFF MAPS!

Got UpDate 2.3.3 days ago. Then I noticed that my Battery just drains awayDid some checking and found out that Google maps is constantly on now. And taking up 27% of my battery usage. Before the update, when I'd exit out,it'd turn off. Now it stays on sucking my Battery dry.

I found out that I can't uninstall it now. Only the Updates.

How can I turn G.Maps off so it doesn't drain my Battery?

My task killer "Kills It". But it starts right back up again.

What's a Droid X'er to do?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Google Maps automatically start when device is booted, you can try System Panel at https://market.android.com/details?id=nextapp.systempanel&feature=search_result and see if it helps, also this app gives you more accurate info of how much the apps are effecting the system.

My X now splits the Google Maps into "Process" and "Service" I can't turn off the "Process". Which has Maps on 24/7 draining the battery.

Strange, I haven't open Maps for some time today and when I look at it on System Panel.  It shows the service was started over 5 hours, but has use or 0.0% or the CPU or 0 seconds of the CPU time.  The Maps app itself is loaded in the background for only the last ten minutes which I didn't open, but it has resourced only 0 seconds of the CPU time or 0.0% of the CPU.  If your active GPS symbol isn't constantly on in your notification, your maps can't be consuming the battery life.

Also any chance of decreasing the font size for your posts?  It almost looks like yelling and that can put a bad taste into mine and possibly others mouth when they read your posts.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

My phone started doing the same thing. I realized it was because of me being logged into latitude. It says network location services. Don't know if that helps.
Good luck.

log out of latitude, i do every time i use it. either google or verizon services by themselves, are adequate for google maps or latitude, gps not required but does increase accuracy.

fwiw:i hardly ever use gps.
