USB connection modes

I bought a Droid 2 for myself for Christmas, and although I'm overwhelmed and at the bottom of my learning curve, I think I'm in love.

I had a Palm Treo 755p, and it was a durable and all in all good phone for many years.  I liked that I could use my PC to type in appointments, contacts, etc. and with the Palm desktop software transfer it to my phone.

Is there any similar ability to do this on the Droid 2?  I know I can input appointments into my Google calendar, however I'm looking for a more general sync ability.   Furthermore, if I have pictures and music I want to transfer, what is the process?

Lastly, what is the difference between PC Mode, Windows Media Sync, and USB Mass Storage, and what would you use each of these modes to do?

Thank you very much for any information you can offer.

I can not speak about the PC mode, I can talk about the mass storage since I use that mode exclusively. When you plug your Droid to your computer, with that mode, your computer will see your Droid as another disc drive. In this mode you can move files back and forth between the two pieces of equipment. For example, I have the apps Quickoffice and I can slide my Words and Excel files from my computer to my Droid. This is also true of photos, music, etc.

Thank you.  The USB Mass Storage mode is essentially what I was looking to do.  I appreciate the answer!
