USB sync from Outlook to Droid 2-is it really not gonna happen?

I am flabbergasted. Why would I want to load my company contacts into a Gmail account?
Why doesn't this phone sync like every other smartphone device I've ever owned? I'm not storing company contacts in the "cloud." And if I did get over that philosophical hurdle, it looks like I have to export to a CSV from Outlook, open Gmail, load them in. How has this happened?
I've tried both DejaDesk (it crashes on my Vista-not to mention you can't even use a USB cable with it), and CompanionLink. (The sync button flashes and nothing happens).
I'm going to have to return the Droid2 and find something else.
Deeply dissapointed.

You can import your contacts from outlook to the droid without using the cloud. You can't sync the info but you can transfer it.
I personally don't want my corporate anything on my cell phone. If you have your own business that's one thing, but for me, if they want me to keep my work info on a mobile device then they better provide me with one and pay for it.

Try companionlink software. That is supposedly a pay-for-app that performs very well.

I guess you didn't see this part in the original post:
