My employer is sending me to Europe and will provide a SIM. My IT department says my phone must be "unlocked" by Verizon to accommodate this. They further state that my phone will still work when I return home. Are they correct? How do I unlock my Droid 2? Can this be done at the Verizon store?

You should call VZW global support to request the SIM unlock. http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/global/support.html

Which DROID 2 model do you have? It will need to be the global ready one to be able to request the SIM unlock.
