Update Failed-Gingerbread

I have a droid x with 2.2 froyo on it and i have been manually pulling down the ota update for gingerbread. So it will download the update, and shut the phone off and when you do the startup point for the installation, it will get about half way through installing, then boot up back into froyo and say update failed.

What i've done to troubleshoot,

Battery pull

cleared cache

cleared browser cache

factory reset

and i'm stumped, i have no idea why it will not install. i have plenty of space for it in flash drive space.

If you have removed or frozen any of the preinstalled apps, the update will fail.

Not sure if you have, just mentioning it.

How much free storage space do you have on your phone?  If this isn't an issue, sometimes an update will not go through because it detects the downloaded info is corrupt.  You might try downloading it again.

When you say manual download do you mean you downloaded the update from a website or settings/about phone/check for update?

But i'm good on memory space, i've cleared off a lot of stuff to make sure, but it keeps failing. I've downloaded the update over OTA through check for update. i've downloaded it like 6 times, just really stubborn lol.

I was talking about another guy that said a really obnoxious comment that the moderator deleted, i do appreciate your help. But i wonder how to restore preinstalled apps.

I know what you were talking about, I wasn't referring to that in my post to you.

Hillstead, if you did remove preinstalled apps that you couldn't normally uninstall through the app manager then ur going to have to revisit the site where you got the instructions to be able to uninstall those apps. Preinstalled apps must be in place or you wont be able to upgrade.

Response is that all pre-installed apps must be in place prior to update.  Over the past year I've added & removed apps, but have no idea which were pre-installed apps.  I thought it was not possible to remove pre-installed apps?
