Does anyone have a clue if my Droid 2 will update to android 2.3 gingerbread, or are they saving that for the new 4g phones?
At this time we do not have any information if the update will be available. Here is a link to sign up for new updates & information as it is released http://tinyurl.com/2gye96a

To Android 2.3? Doubt it, unless you work for Google or Motorola! You may have got version 2.3.X for your phone, but that is not Gingerbread.
got some sort of system version update labled 2.3.20.a955 it came like the rest of the updates came in the past, but nothing that has been promissed in for gingerbread
The way that Verizon and the manufacturers drag out these updates is a joke. I was one of the early Droid buyers and I had to sit and watch phone after phone come out with 2.2 before I got an update. Now I see it happening with the other handsets. Thankfully I rooted my Droid and am rocking a very stable, and bug free version of Android 2.3.3. Luckily the Droid was produced before Motorola started encrypting the bootloaders otherwise I wouldn't have had the option to root. The longer the manufacturers and Verizon drag their feet with updates the greater the likelihood of customers upgrading to new phones. I just wish they would come out with updates and start charging for them. Hell, I would have gladly paid to get upgraded to 2.2 and again to 2.3. Motorola states that the original Droid doesn't have the required specs for 2.3. Then why do thousands upon thousands of Droids currently run better than ever after getting rooted and installing 2.3?
Motorola's policy about updates and trying to force customers to buy new phones to get the latest features is hopefully going to blow up in their faces. I for one am waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S II to come out and then I will upgrade. Samsung doesn't have the same restrictive policies about encrypted bootloaders.
