Updated Droid unlock screen stinks!....... GO BACK TO THE OLD ONE!!!!

The new unlock slider is horrible!!! It went from (IMHO) classy, functional and ergonomic to ugly and hard (relatively speaking) to use. The rotary style followed the natural movement of my thumb the new one....not so much (would help if it was higher on the screen). With the old one it was very easy to no look answer a call, now its something you have to look at.(and a potential distraction and safety hazzard).... (we all know we shouldn't talk and drive but people will anyway).

New font choice and placement is just as bad.... once again went from classy and stylish to trailer-trashy.....

Give us the option to individually select the style that works best for each individual user..... add a setting please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to disagree. although the original was great with thumb placement, and the fact it was the only version i have ever known so i had no choice but to like it.

by holding the droid flat in my palm, my thumb now slides easier across the surface of the screen. with the old screen there were times where my swipe was not long enough to unlock the phone so i would have to try again. with this new lock i have yet to experience a bad swipe.

but on the bright side, if there are enough complaints, you know that someone will come up with an app for that.

I totally agree! Give us the option. The other unlock screen was so much more intuitive. Isn't it something. Something works perfectly and they change it quickly. Something is broken and they take forever to fix it. Go figure.

I'm OK with the new screen, but I liked the old one too. So an option would be nice. I think one reason that they might have changed it was to create separate items for Unlock and Mute. I don't think some people ever realized a right-to-left swipe would mute the phone. Just a guess though.

I for one like the new lock screen. But what I like even better is the haptic response of the new screen! I just wish the vibrate alert for incoming calls was this strong. Then I could leave my phone on vibrate only at work. But since the vibrate alert is so unnoticeable in my pocket I have to leave the ringtone volume up so that I know I am getting a phone call, notification or what not.

New lock screen is great, i can now answer phone calls with no problem. HANG UP AND DRIVE

Personally i prefered the old unlock screen, and do find it a bit disturbing that they'd change the phone without any regards to customer feeling about it. Am i to expect a new look every release, this is a .1 change.. so every little update there's going to be some new unlock screen? How about some courtesy and let the user determine if they want chagnes made to their screen, or at least put out an app that allows for it before implementing something that the user can't change.

Well put it into perspective: If the lock screen is the only thing to complain about -- then I'd say the Droid is in pretty good shape.

Totally agree with the first post. I was in such shock the first time I saw it. The font for the numbers is just ghastly to say the least and them being offset just makes it look untidy instead of whatever they were going for. I was so in love with the original clean design. Please bring it back!! Unlocking the phone used to be a pleasure, now it's just a chore...an ugly chore.

I wasn't looking forward to it changing, seeing the screenshots and all. it's not the worst unlock screen though.

haven't received a call yet from the locked mode. Is it easier to answer?

will we see it with every change? i myself like change, so bring it on goog.

I totally agree! I HATE the new unlock! Very awkward to use! Also, the new time thingy is large and ugly! And that's not the only thing the update screwed up on my phone.

I agree PLus my phone is actually worse than before the update. I really can not talk on it; echos, static and droping offOr cutting in/out

any suggestions??

I agree. I'm ridiculously angry about the new unlock screen. Words aren't enough to explain exactly how angry I am. I signed up to the community just so I could respond to this thread. Now it isn't easy to unlock with one hand. I wish I'd never updated my phone. If I'd known that was going to happen I never would have done it. We need to be given the option to go back to the old screen- there are obviously several users that are dissatisfied so the developers need to fix it. What **bleep** came up with this new design? Do they own and use a Droid on a regular basis like we do?

I like the old unlock but maybe it's just a learning curve.

In the short time I have had this new Driod, there have been two updates......I hope this don't turn into another microsoft!!!

Okay that's a little over-the-top. I can't tell if you're being a troll, or you're really upset.

The thing is, the lock screen isn't so bad. It's completely comparable to the "Simplicity of the iPhone." It's not that big of a deal. Just slide to the right. If you carry and unlock your phone with your right hand, then it's no different. You just don't have that curve. If you use it for your left, then you're already at an advantage.

I'm glad that this is a hot topic for all of you as opposed to something else that's just as trivial.

I wholeheartedly agree! They had it right the first time. The new screen font looks like an amateur set it up. The arc motion for unlock was so natural for me. And it seems as though the vibration for button touches has been intensified. I don't need or want an earthquake to let me know that I am touching a button!

It's just a lock screen - no one should be THAT angry about it.

I like it personally - it's much quicker to unlock.

My issue is that if you don't unlock or take some action the screen goes dark too quickly.

Not to change the subject of the thread or anything, fezzek, but I seem to think this story I found on Slashdot may be relevant.

Despite what the trolls think, their are a couple of things that could use some tweeking with the unlock screen. For instance, if you use a pattern lock, you can still have to option to turn the sound off.

Secondly, is there a way to turn off the vibrations whenpulling the tabs?

Finally, the pattern lock screen is quick to shut it self off whenever you use the wrong pattern. Is this normal or can it be adjsted?

I totally agree! im sooo glad that i was one of the last ppl to get the update that i was so looking forward to so that i had a chance to see screenshots before i updated. I absolutely hate the new lock screen so i am boycotting updating my phone until they either switch it back to the elegant lock screen or provide an option to choose new or old one.

I have to agree with the ones who want a choice of unlock screens. It would be a trivial, truly trivial programming task, as both screens are available right now. It really doesn't matter that some are unhappy and some are happy. It doesn't matter that some are 'over the top' angry. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks about the uproar over this.

What does matter is the fact that Moto, Google, android, whomever decided to change the unlock screen. It was not a good idea. The original screen was fine, and worked as it should. With all the other design 'features' (read bugs) in the phone, taking more than 6 or 7 seconds of some programmer's time to change the unlock screen was ridiculous. Someone's priorities need to be rethought here. Giving users the choice, at this point in time, is worth a few more seconds of programming time. :smileywink:

Don't get me wrong, I can take or leave either screen. The new one doesn't bother me any more than the old one. It's just the idea that any amount of time was spent on so trivial a part of the phone when there are other things that could have been worked on. Bluetooth, anyone??

So, bottom line, although getting angry about this is, well, a little out there as far as I'm concerned (no offense meant to those who are angry, sorry), it is waste of the developers time. time that could be better spent elsewhere.

Bottom line, give users the choice between the two. Problem solved. :smileytongue:

You could just enable the locking pattern.

That is the part I find funny... I can't IMAGINE not having a passcode on my phone. What if you lose it? You want just anyone to have access to all your contacts, your cell phone service, web history, etc? Not me.

So I never see the old or the new lock screen. Just the passcode screen...

I also vote for giving users the choice of using the new or old unlock slider. I preferred the old one....

I like the new one...lets you swipe left to quickly mute the phone , and swipe right to quickly put ringer back on ; )
