Verizon Network Connection Issues

I just got the Moto Droid about 2 weeks ago. I've loved the phone, but have had some network issues. These never happened with my old phone, the Samsung Rogue. I look at both of the phones now and the Rogue still has a strong connection but my droid does not.

When ressetting my phone I get a perfect 4 bars and 3g. After about a half hour it will go away and I can use a task killer to kill everything, including system apps and I'll get my 3g back. At first this didn't bother me, but now it's starting to become a problem with syncing. I doesn't seem as though I'm "out of the network area" because I can still get a full connection with a phone reset.

Could the phone be defective?

it could be defective but then again you have to realize if a lot people are using the network for surfing then the signal strength is going to go down a bit.

when you are noticing this, are you in a building, large, cement, lots of metal? this too can restrict signal.  i know if i stand at the front of a walmart, i have a great signal, but towards the back i lose a little something.
