1. Your English is very broken. You might want to slow down and type a little clearer. Especially if you want your message to be understood and taken seriously.
B. Verizon is only taking your money because you signed a contract to give it to them.
3. I haven't heard them make any excuses. Just statements.
D. Update is sure to come...someday.
5. This isn't a complaining forum. This is an informational forum where we can all help each other and be a community.
This concludes my message.
This may not be a complaining forum but the OP is right.
Overall, I am happy with my Eris. But I was lied to when I went to the local Verizon store to get my Eris. First I was told that the Droid 2.0 software upgrade would be pushed through in March, and it has not been.
I was also told, when I specifically asked this question, that Google Maps had GPS voice controlled directions, and it does not. I previously owned an Alias with VZ Navigator and I used that feature all the time. So I was quite disappointed to find out the Eris did not have it. That is when I was told that Google Maps did the same thing.
And I understand that if and when the new Droid software is sent to the Eris phones, VZ Navigator will be able to be used, but it will cost another $10 a month on top of the $125 I pay now!
You can believe when my contract with Verizon is up, I will be looking for something different.
I don't see my post so much as complaining as I see it as an education for anyone doing any research here. I have to say that I am very disappointed in Verizon with this whole thing.
I agree with the OP, I have an Eris and I'm more than a little upset.
However, if I were allowed by Verizon to upgrade to the Incredible - I would be a happy, happy customer once again!!!
Please please PLEASE, Big Red, let us trade in our Eris phones for an Incredible!
Well here we Apr.19 and yet NO 2.1 update! No more recommending Verizon or the droids for me. Very disappointed in Verizon.
this is the google voice transcript so excuse any misspellings
Really? So with everything that you could complain about your picking the update as a reason to not recommend Verizon or the Droid? Considering what Droid 1.5 can do I dont see anything in the 2.1 update that would warrant such an attitude. Some of you really need to get a grip.
Im itching to get Google Navigation but its not life or death. Plus I know its coming and when it does I want everything to work right. So if they need to take some time to make sure then so be it.
Also, if you are just DYING to have navigation, go buy a GPS navigator from Garmin or someone else.
Or, even better, carry your laptop around with you everywhere you go. Buy a mobile wireless receiver and pay a crap ton of extra money for it.
Why are people so upset about no update?
Who cares if someone said it was coming out, it is, and people need to calm down and just be patient.
And, if you bought your phone because you thought it was coming out right away, too bad. You should've bought the phone that had it.
Buying a device expecting the update to come out on time or at all is a very poor choice. If you learn one thing about technology, never buy something expecting it to be updated. Because, it may never happen.
See, here's the thing. Verizon, like most companies, is just getting too big for their britches. I wrote the company just a week ago about how dissatisfied and angry I was that they crammed a nearly out of life product in my hands. I railed on their secretive product considerations. All I got was a flood of emails from many people at Verizon all vehemently denying that the Eris is going to the graveyard, and not a single one of them offered any comment on the 2.1 update.
Rather than complain, people need to just walk away from Verizon. I will be very shortly. I encourage Verizon to try to get me to pay a penny for walking away. Won't happen. It's at times like this that I hope Apple rips the iPhone from Verizon's grasp forever. I loathe AT&T, but after five years of continued abuse by Verizon I will happily pay them before I give Verizon any more of my business.
So folks, rather than rant, look for another carrier. Walk away. Send a message to Verizon, and to HTC for that matter, that enough is enough. I can say I will never own another HTC device again. I'm sure the new Incredible is a nice piece of hardware, but too late for this customer. While my experience with the Eris has been great, Verizon has stabbed me in the wallet for the last time. What will be fun is resending all of the moronic emails their people sent me denying any Eris end of life when the phone goes sunset in two weeks. I'll have to make sure they get posted too.
I'm sure there are hotheads on here who love Verizon and are just dying to type out "go ahead leave who cares..." and all of that good stuff. Probably no one will care. Point is though, I'm not a {please keep your posts courteous} who spends their life as a carpet for others to walk on. I suggest a good many other Verizon customers take the same road.
If you're this upset about not getting an update, then please do leave.
It's too bad people are letting this "Where's The Eris Update?" topic rule their lives and emotions in a negative way.
I hope you find a better phone with better support than any of the Droids.
Also, just FYI, the Android OS is still pretty new. And there is a lot more to come, especially with the open source it has.
So, good luck Jujinky. Hope you are happy with a less awesome phone with a less covering provider.
I will be the first to say that Verizon has some issuse. But i was with AT&T before Verizon. So I will tell you it isn't any better on the other side. We had an HTC. I agree they are junk for what you have to pay. But to give verizon some credit. I have never been withouth service no matter where i go. Do some background work before you switch please. I was with att for 5 years. I love verizon. Not that they are perfect, but are reliable. Thanks

While I agree with you that some people are simply getting coo coo about this topis, the reality here is that some of us bought this phone based on the fact that we were getting a firmware update....
Granted I am more patient than most, but I am starting to get a little PO'd as I now have this phone for 5 months and when I bought it I was told I would be receiving the new firmware by the end of January.
Are the store employees misinformed? Yes! (We know this NOW)
Do the store employees make statements that are false? Yes!
Are the store employees the "Face of the Company"?? ABSOLUTELY!!
Whichever side of this debate you are on, like it or not this is an issue! I have been with VZW for 12 years and I am not going anywhere but should I not be annoyed that I bought a phone under false pretenses and am stuck with it for the duration of my NE2?
I am sorry, but I am going to have to agree with jinky on this one. I have been with Verizon, and the reason I switched was because Cingular screwed me over at the time. Needless to say, I despise AT&T, but I am still strongly considering moving back to them. At least with an iPhone, I know that I will get my OS updates the same time as everyone else. True, my hardware would go obsolete, but it will still be supported by the OS. If my issue with the Eris was hardware based, then yes, I would be a **bleep** for getting upset. My issue though is the fact that they can't seem to get an OS update done to anything close to current. True, I will be losing some if I move back to AT&T, but at this time, I think I am going to get on board with jinky and move to a new carrier. Maybe if enough people move, then Verizon will start to listen. Then again, they might not either.
I have to agree with jayjay. I purchased this phone based on the fact that the salesman told me the update would be out within 2 weeks of my purchase date. My concern is that I cannot use the navigation or voice activation on the bluetooth while driving the car. In CA it is the law, no phones in your hand. Even if I could hold the phone, try reading driving directions on that phone while holding it and driving at the same time and then try to do it at night. An ACCIDENT waiting to happen. Verizon shouldn't make statements that are false. If I had known this prior to making the purchase (and they didn't tell me at the point of sale), I would have stuck with my Razor until things were updated.
I'm just going to say what I said in the other thread. Email them. Don't just post it in the forums. I don't think anybody but the Mods are reading these forums, so if you don't contact VZW directly you are wasting your breath.
