Verizon to offer Droid 2 as replacement?

Ok, So I saw on another message board, that for any defective or broken Droid 1, Verizon was offering the Droid 2 as replacement since Droid 1 is no longer being sold. Anyone know if this is true? Just curious. :smileywink: Ive already had to have my Droid 1 replaced once. Something wrong with the mic. And Verizon sent me a "Certified Like New" replacement with another Droid 1. This has been almost a month ago though. Would love to know the answer though!

I am curious about that also. I had to have mine replaced for the same problem, and I think this one has the same issue.

If there are no more refurbished original Droid's to be offered then you will have the option of getting the Droid 2.

I am also having the same problem with this new one too. Everyone I talk to says I sound muffled and they can't hear me clearly. Removed my case to see if that helped, and nope, it didn't. Would be nice if we could ge the Droid 2's as replacements, since it seems like the mass production of the Droid 1 all have the same problem, I was told by a rep that it was a known issue by Motorola and they were aknowledging this issue with warrenty replacements. Maybe with the Droid 2 all the quirks have been worked out? I would love to have the X, BUT, I am not a fan of soley touch screen phones. Still like the idea of the physical keyboard.

they may, i had the tour before i had this droid 2, and i got a replacement for the tour a few months back. it so happened that vz was giving out new bolds in the box as replacements for the tour. so i got a brand new bold as a replacement for the tour, chekc the crackberry dot com forums its dubbed boldgate.

I agree, if 2.2 worked like it should I would be happy, but it made my phone not what I bought. I bought a phone for on the go mobile. Basically lots of pandora, slacker and last FM streaming music. None work now, they should give free replacement or allow people to go back to 2.1 which worked perfectly and call it 2.3

Yup, I mean everything else works good on my phone even my internet is faster but it sucks that my market wont work and I can't even see my pictures. I still like my phone tho haha

Three weeks ago, I bought a DRIOD for my wife and myself and we both sound muffled. Also, I have noticed significantly worse reception with the DROID than I had with my LG Dare (which I wasn't a huge fan of either). Does anyone know much about the DRIOD-2? Are the "guts" essentially the same? Is there any reason to expect any difference in the performance of the phone? I have one more week to decide what I want to do with my phones.

The Droid 2 is a decent upgrade from a stock Droid 1. The processor is clocked almost twice as fast (1GHz v 550Mhz), has 8GB of internal app storage (v 256MB on the original), much improved keyboard (no dpad and more spread out keyboard) and better stock android virtual keyboard and Swype from the factory. Only downside is the Blur-esque skin that Motorola has insisted on putting on the Droid X and Droid 2. From playing around with them at the store it tends to bog things down but a launcher replacement like Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher can fix most of that. The droid 2 does have a few issues related to wifi and exchange though.

I just received my 4th replacment (5th phone). Droid 1.

They will have a years + supply of Droid 1 because people will continue to ship in the phone and continue to "fix" them.

I know that with the Droid2 (as well as Droid X) you will have to pay a monthly fee to use the Navigation features - it's called "VZ Navigator" and currently goes for $9.99/mo. . The original Droid includes the SAME THING, by a different name, for free.

I saw this Posted elsewhere and found that it helped with my "fancy piece of plastic", perhaps it will with yours as well:

If your voice sounds muffled on the Droid -

On your keypad, input ##7764726

Touch "Send" - the Green Telephone Receiver

It will ask for a password - input 000000 (6 zeros)

Select "04 Vocode"

Select EVRC-B

Press "Apply"

Your Droid may restart.

This may make the voice clearer for your given area - if not (or you travel someplace where your voice(s) once again sound muffled) keep this information at hand and switch back to the default EVRC.

We are still waiting for the Adobe Flash 10.1 Upgrade and then it's the wait game for the 4G upgrade...but will be waiting it out with our first choice - The Original Motorola Droid :smileysurprised: )

Not true with the navigation.

Droid X and Droid 2 still let you use Google Navigation (free)... but have the option of Verizon Nav.

a friend of mine had the same problem. he was using a hard case though that was partially obstructing the mic so people didn't hear him well on calls. he took off the case and the problem was solved

Thanks for the update Cobjones. Yes, the Droid uses Google turn by turn voice Navigation and it's free, so I have no need for VZ Navigator. Bummer that I don't have the option of blowing another $119.88 per year for VZ Navigator.

I have the original droid and my wife has a droid 2. They look a bit different. The keyboard is much better, the speed is better, however, I do believe that most of the hardware is the same. I love my droid and would want it replaced with the original one. Hopefully nothing goes wrong with mine. The droid 2 is a very nice phone, I would only upgrade for the speed diference, however, since the 2.2 upgrade mine seems just as quick as hers.

I have been to my local Verizon store two times with replacement Droids for myself and they are getting ready to ship another one since none of those worked for me. Plus they also had to send one for my husband. The only good thing about the whole process was the customer service with Brenda at the Beatrice store. She let me make an appointment to get my husband's phone done the next day. She also offered to do my next Droid for me if it was before the Beatrice store closed. I asked if I could get the Droid 2 and she said she was so sorry. She hoped that the next phone would work. She was checking all of the apps that she could and still none of them worked on my phone. My husband can't play mafia wars at all, since the upgrade. WHAT ARE WE TO DO?????????????

My son and my both own the original Droids. We both experienced dozens of issues and as a result over the course of a week and a half insisted that VZ replace the Droid 1 with the Droid 2. This just happened and I had to go thru hoops and numerous ladders of people before they agreed, however they did not want to provide batteries or phone backs. A total bunch of miskreets.

Please clarify that you received two NEW Droid2 devices and did not have to pay any additional money, extend your contract or any other requirements.

I apologize about your experience. Usually with a replacement device you would use the battery of the old phone. What I can recommend is contacting our customer care department to see if there are any other options to replace the battery. You can also purchase a extended batter online in your My Verizon Account, under the shop tab and accessories.

Same problem here Akcsniko. I am on 2nd Droid and people say my voice is muffled and cant hear me. and my alerts sound weird like they are in hyper-speed.

I just got off the phone with tech support. I asked for supervisor and got Ben. He tells me they won't upgrade to another Droid because they still have refurbished phones left. I tell him I know for a complete fact that is **bleep** because I know someone who had problems with (5) Droid 1 phones in a row and they upgraded her to the Droid 2. This is my 3rd Droid, 5th on our plan, now my 4th one is coming Thursday.

I've been a loyal customer, never complained about phone issues, never had to replace a phone under warranty. I like the Droid but it freezes, messages are messed up, won't send, buttons not working, stuck on the "on" screen. I've taken the 3rd party aps off, master reset, still same issues. I have to take the battery out to shut phone off after it freezes. Ben says he's as high as I can talk to and I signed a contract that they will only replace with same phone. No matter it's another broken phone. I mean where are they getting all of these refurbished phones when they don't even sell Droid 1 in stores anymore?

He has supervisors but he can't tell me their names or let me speak to them because they don't take phone calls. My only option is to email customer service and tell them a want an updated Droid. I don't even see in the "contact us" section of email who I'd complain to. I've had Verizon since it was still Alltel around here and they don't seem to care that they are driving me to another provider. Anyone have some tips for me to get a decent phone that is reliable? I have 2 phones on the account, no history of lying to get a new phone, but that doesn't seem to matter. I pay my bill reliably, I want a phone that provides the same curiosity. I know for a fact they can replace with another Droid model yet this tech supervisor said absolutely no!! He won't, can't and they don't have to. They have sold some huge number of these phones and there aren't issues with the Droid.

I have the same problem with no one being able to understand me. I have also had the sound have that sped up sound. It was anything that made a sound did that. But when I turned my phone off and on again it didn't do it anymore. I finally went into the store today to get a replacement for the muffled speaker and other things. They are sending me a refurbished Droid 1.

I spent 2 hours at Verizon last night, dealing with my 2nd Droid 1 that the screen goes black. Im so mad right now I cant even tell you. I told the guy downgrade me, because the droid is crap and I need a phone that actually works all the time!! Nope no can do. They told me that they are no longer replacing droid 1's and I would be getting a Droid 2. Interesting, considering I DONT WANT it. All I wanted was to downgrade to a completely different phone.

Im phoneless now Tues to Thurs. because they cant replace the phone at the actual store it has to be mailed to my house. So I wasted 2 hours of my life waiting only to be told they cant do a thing. And they actually had the nerve to tell me I should have called customer care to resolve the issue. Which would have been a brilliant idea, IF I HAD A PHONE that worked!!

I asked them for credit, since I shouldnt have to pay for service on a phone I DONT HAVE, nope wouldnt do that either. I have exactly 9 months until my contract is over... buh, bye Verizon, Ill be getting an Iphone on ATT.... Im fed up.

WOW looks like alot of people having problems, Im just confused why this phone has so many good reviews and theres many droid1 followers in the forums and blogs. The way verizon sees it, people are just trying to get the droid2 for free in my opinion. I see the same kind of posts everywhere whenever a new phone comes out. Like when the storm 2 came out alot of people were calling in to take advantage. While I am sure nobody here is trying to take advantage, the abuse in other people's part causes all of us to suffer. I think your best bet is make sure that verizon summits a report to motorola or call motorola directly. There are no known defects for this phone, this phone is being sold in alltel and other countries as the motorola milestone and it works fine. Something must be going on at the motorola factory?

I started reading the thread in hopes to find out if people were getting Droid 2's as fru replacements recently to get an idea of what I might find tomorrow when I get mine. After reading it, I feel like making a few comments.

I would love to find a brand new droid 2 in the box tomorrow, but I won't be disappointed if it's a "like new" droid. I'm just happy, that when my phone started to act up, I was able to easily get a replacement. In fact it was easier than I thought. The rep I spoke with didn't fight with me or make me go through a bunch a troubleshooting steps that I had already done. He knew that I knew a thing a two and as soon as he saw my phone freak out, he immediately started the process of getting me a replacement. Of course, I had previously worked for a Verizon agent so I am familiar with their policies and knew what to expect. But it always annoys me what the common person expects.

As with all electronics, there are going to be issues. They are delectate machines that can be destroyed by a simple static electric shock or a small amount of moisture. Cell phone in particular get banged around a lot and dropped making them more pron to to issues. When something breaks on you, don't get mad. Be happy that they have a good system to get you a replacement. (Although I wish that since you have a 2 year contract, the warranty was 2 year rather than one). A lot of people complain when they get a replacement that it is a refurb and not new. But when your TV break, the manufacture makes you send it to them, wait 4-6 weeks to get the same one back fixed. Verizon and their manufacturing partners could use the same policy, but they realize that you need your phone, so they take the phone they fixed for someone else in place of yours for faster turn around.

Do these refurbs sometimes have problems, sure. Maybe an issue wasn't reported when it was returned and over looked, perhaps they fixed the wrong thing. So you may sometimes go through 2 or 3 or more on rare occasions and that is frustrating. But more often then not, from what I have seen is the people who go through several devices, there isn't really a problem, they just believe there is. One example is the wobbly keyboard. People get these refurbs, thinking oh I better test everything out thoroughly. They check the keyboard and it seems a little wobbly. (which they all are) and they keep playing with it, until it really is broken. Or my favorite, "it's too slow". I've heard this a million times with computers. It's usually the people perception. Granted 1 in 100 might be slow due to over heating or some other issue, but most of the time when something is slow it's due to the persons impatience.

Those that are bashing the droid, well, either you're very unlucky or maybe aren't technically inclined enough to handle Android. What most people fail to see is that Android is in it's infancy, heck smart phone are in their infancy. There is still a lot of work to be done to get out the bugs. Lockups, freezes, poor battery life, program errors, etc are all going to occur on just about any advanced device. Heck, anyone remember trying to run windows 98. There were so many issues with all the different hardware that it was a nightmare. But I'd say Windows 7 is pretty stable on just about anything you run it on now, even tablets. In time Android/blackberry/windows mobile/iOS will all work out their kinks and there will be much better experiences. If you can't take it, perhaps you better go back to a flip phone for now.

I know Verizon isn't with out it's flaws either. Their are plenty of moronic reps in the company and some very good ones too. Sometimes you get the idiot, just politely ask to speak to a supervisor or if you one the phone hang up and call back. Chances are the next person you talk to will be better. Don't get rude though, that never works. Sometimes people will do things to shut you up, but they also might do things to **bleep** you off you don't realize.

Question for Droid 2 owners?

1) Have you received the latest update that started going out last week?

2) If you answered “Yes” to question 1, is your exchange e-mail working again if you use it.

I have a Droid 1 and obviously my exchange e-mail does not work. I was told by Verizon that they would send me out a Droid 2 and they said that the new update for the Droid 2 “should” fix the problem. If this is less than accurate, then the Droid 2 will not solve my problem. I dont want a Droid 2 just because it is a new version. I want my e-mail to work again.

I am on my 5th and my father is on his 7th, while my husband is on his 3rd. I think everyone needs to come together and FORCE Verizon to replace these defective Androids for free, and I don;t mean giving away refurbished ones, I mean upgrading ALL OF US for free since we can rarely ever use it anymore without it locking, closing, foreclosing, freezing, NOTHING WORKS ANYMORE! And all the refurbished phones do if give you hope for about a week until it starts ALL OVER AGAIN! If They are not willing to give me a free upgrade, I'm filing Suit.
