Some keyboard shortcuts I have discovered.
Touch and hold:
- ?123 to display a pop-up with the selections: Android settings and Input method
- . to display a pop up window containing 14 different special characters including comma (In 2.1 comma key defaults to voice input (microphone symbol) but can be changed in Android settings)
- Shift to switch to caps lock mode
in default messaging app to display a pop up of other emoticons
- Voice input can be activated by swiping the keyboard from left to right (useful if you changed settings to revert the microphone key back to comma).

Correction: Swiping the keyboard to activate voice input only works if the Voice input option is selected in Android keyboard settings.
