I get an error saying Visual Voice Mail cannot sync if wifi is enabled. This is a major problem! If I'm at home I have wifi turned on all the time. Is this a known issue, will this be fixed?
WiFi access in not supported with Verizon branded applications including Visual Voicemail. It's not a bug, just not currently available. If you review the link below, you'll see that it's a known issue, but no ETA is published.

Is the phone just not capable of doing 3G and wifi at the same time? I don't understand why the Visual Voice Mail can't work if I'm connected to wifi. It's not like I'm removed from the cellular network.

Verizon isn't the only network that it happens to. It happens to Sprint and T-Mobile as well. They just don't allow you to activate your VM with Wi-Fi on. Something about some security reason.
What happens when you turn WiFi on is the phone disconnects from 3G so you dont burn through the battery. In order to get visual voicemail you have to acess the voicemail through the network like when you have to call for normal voicemail. So in order to connect to the network you have to turn WiFi off.
This problem has nothing to with Android or the Droid, as I have this same problem on all 3 of my devices: Droid, BB Storm1 (BB OS), and HTC TP2 (Windows Mobile OS). I have had this problem ever since I have been with Verizon. You cannot utilize the MY Verizon app or VZ Navigator while connected to Wi-fi either. Basically anything from VZW you cannot access over Wi-fi.
This is really annoying - I use Wi-Fi 100% of the time when at home.
Why can we make phone calls and call Voice Mail and not be able to use VM with Wi-Fi on - **bleep** and I may cancel it for the $2.99 since it's useless.
Meant to refer to BB Storm2 not Storm1 in my above post.
If yuou can get your hands on a Google Voice account, it has the capibility of free visual voicemail. The Google voice application is in the market.

Then Verizon needs to update its Visual Voicemail software to work around wifi, instead of simply not functioning when it is enabled. They have enough wifi enabled phones in circulation now to make it worth addressing this poor functionality.
I find it hard to believe that they could not code the app to temporarily route VVM traffic through the 3G connection in order to sync, while the other traffic routes through wifi.
I may be wrong, but I believe "iPhone does"...
You are right, the iphone does. From what I understand, the problem is because CDMA does not allow data and voice connections simultaneously as GSM does. Hence Verizon is CDMA and ATT is GSM.
VVM on Sprint Android phones... the HTC Hero and Samsung Q works over WIFI very effectively.
I have the WIFI turned ON and whenever I reach home Samsung Q phone connects to my home WIFI network and I continue to receive my Visual Voicemails over WIFI... works really well.
New update 1.0.9 adds wi-fi support.
Thank you Verizon!
Version 1.0.9 of Visual Voice Mail now will work while Wi-Fi is on.
I got a new Motorola droid for the two month old that was freaking out, burning, and overall going crazy. This one is working well, but in the other one I had no problem with VMMail. With this one I disconnect the WI FI, download the function and put my password and it gives me a message that it is "Unable to establish connection to the mailbox. the problem is usually temporary...etc. etc. and some choices Reetry...etc., Dail voice mail and Cancel. I can dial it myself without the charges.
It's been doing the same for the last 5 hours. And, at least this is a step ahead. Before the 5 hours, it will not even take the password, it will send me back to the password box without any messages. any hlep ya'll can give me?
