After GB update I see a app on my home screen called Voice Dial. When I press it, it says application not installed on my phone. What is it for?

The voice dial icon you see was on the phone with froyo 2.2.1.   It was removed with the update to GB but it left the icon there.  Same thing happened to me.  The only thing you can do is put it in the trash and get an aftermarket voicedial app like eric suggests.

Does it say Voice Dial or Voice Search ar maybe Voice Command?  There should be two voice apps installed at default....

1. Voice Search - Part of Google App Package which can access a number of commands by voice.

2. Voice Command - Used for voice dialing contacts only

The voice command app is standard though, there should be no need to install a new one right?

I have no problem with the standard voice command app. Most people never bother to do the voice adaptation which could be why they have so many issues with it.

I tried vlingo just for the ability to have it read my text messages over my BT headset, but it would even read them when the headset was disconnected even though that was unchecked in options. Now several BT headset manufacturers have an app of their own.

Worked flawlessly for me for almost a year now...  And as for the adaption step, I never had to do this to get the stock one to function without issues but I just perfer some of the options Vlingo offers.

I have seen a few "orphaned icons" for third-party apps after the update.  Since the interface now allows you to put what you want in the home row, it was a good opportunity to rearrange some things, delete apps I was no longer using, and generally clean up.
