I bot my Incredible a little over a week ago and love it. BUT the voice dialing is not working. I am speaking into the phone (not a bluetooth) and it doesn't recognize any name that I say. Anyone else have this issue or know a fix for it??

Got to agree with you, reilli.... the built in VOICE DIAL feature on the INCREDIBLE is INCREDIBLY USELESS!!!
Like probably 99+ % of cell phone users, I have my home phone number programmed in my phone as "HOME", and I was always able to voice dial on my old Moto Razr by hitting the Voice Dial button and saying, "Call Home". Voice recognition software built into this ~2002 vintage phone occasionally misunderstood me, but correctly understood my command approx. 80% of the time. I was always prompted with a confirmation query like, "Did you say, Call Home?", so I knew when it got it right and when I had to say NO and try again.
On my new, expensive HTC/ Verizon Droid Incredible, the same attempt to call Home using Voice Dial rarely, if EVER, gets a correct interpretation of my spoken command- it appears to return virtually random selections from the ~120 entries in my Contacts list. I tried to get creative and intuitive, changing the name on my home number to something I thought would NOT sound like any other entries in my Contacts list, but the built-in Voice Dial is consistently ineffective at recognizing ANY name or number I assign to my home number.
WHY AM I SO UPSET ABOUT THIS?
Because using the handset's Voice Dial feature is a compromise I thought I would be willing to make, after discovering that... (wait for it....)
THE HTC/ VERIZON DROID INCREDIBLE CAN NOT DO what my old Moto Razr did so easily: voice dial via a bluetooth headphone. I used this feature frequently when driving, shoppling, etc, and it is certainly the safest way to receive or make important calls when driving. Two hands on the wheel, and no need to take your eyes off the road- just tap the headphone briefly and talk.
After multiple attempts to get my new Jawbone Icon bluetooth headset to voice dial a call via my new Incredible, I surfed around and got to HTC's website, where I learned that oh, by the way you suckers, you fell for a phone that DOESN'T SUPPORT the bluetooth voice dial capability.
Now I understand why they named it the INCREDIBLE- I find it INCREDIBLE that HTC, GOOGLE, and VERIZON think it's OK to market a "smart phone" that can't do what most every other cell phone can do today. This is a SAFETY ISSUE, you knotheads!!!! The posts I've read on several forums state that HTC's engineers disabled this feature in the software for the Droid because it apparently didn't work very well.... OH, REALLY???? HOW ABOUT FIXING IT THEN!!! This apears to be a lame attempt to mask a hardware/ software integration design weakness and rush this phone to market.
SHAME ON YOU, HTC, GOOGLE, and VERIZON! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, so spend a little less time designing slick ways to jump back and forth between Facebook and Twitter, and make this PHONE SAFER TO USE IN REAL WORLD SITUATIONS.
Are you LAZY, INCOMPETENT, ARROGANT, or all of the above?

It's just like WhyRless said:

FYI: Froyo 2.2 fixes this issue. It's more of a software issue than the phone itself. Don't blame HTC.
Froyo Features
Bluetooth
- Voice dialing over Bluetooth
- Ability to share contacts with other phones
- Support for Bluetooth enabled car and desk docks
- Improved compatibility matrix with car kits and headsets

I knew the update resolved the Bluetooth dialing issue but that doesn't help the voice dialing feature on the phone itself. That's what I am having the issue with.

I just received my Droid Incredible yesterday and it says all software is up to date and I can't get the voice dialer to work with the phone or with my Jawbone Bluetooth. Any clues as to what I need to do?

I downloaded an app from the market place and it works fine. You have to open it so I put it on my home page so I just hit it, say the name and it dials. If the person has more than one number you have to hit the number. While driving the phone is mounted to my dashboard so it works fine.

Update. I've been using Choice Dialer Plus Free by Resounding LLC and it works pretty well.

I am completely frustrated and dissapointed at the lack of voice dialing capability on my Incredible given everything else I can do with this device.
I have tried all the suggestions for downloading other apps to solve this problem, but this is such a basic feature ( and safety issue!) available on every other phone that I am appaled it has not been addressed and fixed by the both Verizon and HTC. How hard can it be when every other cheap phone has this capability??
It is completely ruining my experience with the phone as I use this feature all the time in the car. It is, after all, a phone first and foremost! I really like every other feature of the device so it too bad this is not getting fixed.
I am not recomending the phone to friends or family solely based on this issue and plan to switch unless something is done to address this.

Here are the steps to using Voice Dialing on the Incredible.
Voice dialer cannot be initiated by a Bluetooth headset.
- From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located in the lower-left).
- Touch Voice Dialer.
- When prompted, say one of the following example commands.
- "Call <Name or Number>"
- "Call Voicemail"
- "Dial <Number>"
- "Dial <911, 811..etc>"
- "Redial"
- "Open <Calendar, Music...etc>"
