Volume Control Changed on 2.2

Well, I'm officially mad that the recent update has changed the way I control my volume. The button on the right side of the phone used to have separate levels for No Sound, Vibrate, and then Sound. After I installed the update, I can't turn the sound off via the button on the right side of the phone. It only has Vibrate and Sound. I have to manually go into Settings and turn the sound off. Who is the {please keep your posts courteous} that made this decision? He should be fired. Does anyone have a solution? I can go into Settings and play around with the Silent Mode and the Vibrate, but no combination will allow for both to exist and be changed using the manual sound button on the right side of the phone.

Yea, that doesn't work. It still vibrates. I have to agree with the original post. I preferred being able to go silent/no vibrate like when I go to bed! Now the vibrating wakes me up in the middle of the night and I have to either turn the vibrate setting off or I have to turn the phone off. BOOO!

Try Do Not Disturb on the Market.
Just set up a schedule to silence
I use it to keep phone silent at night daily.
Works flawless on 2.1 & better on 2.2.
The text was way too small on 2.1.
Can enable vibrate if you wish.

If I slide my finger from right to left on the unlocking device, it changes the sound to off and then if I do it again, it turns it back on. I think this was an option before but I never used it for some reason. But if I go into Settings, Sound, and then select Vibrate, there is an option for "Only when not in silent mode." However, my phone then vibrates and rings at the same time which is really annoying because it kills my battery. I need to have Silent and no Vibrate when at work because we have a very strict cell phone policy. I want "Vibrate Only" when the phone is in my pocket. I want sound only with no vibrate when I'm sitting at home. The best option at this point is to go into settings and choose vibrate only when in silent mode and then slide the unlocking device from right to left when I put the phone in my pocket. Then it will at least vibrate in my pocket. The annoying thing is that I will have to go into settings every day when I go to work and select vibrate never and then put it in silent mode. This recent update was basically a downgrade as far as sound control goes.

Go to menu-sounds-vibtate, it will give you four options always never only in silent and only when not in silent. Hit never and silence is on the rocker again
Then if I want Vibrate turned on, I have to go back into Settings and switch it back. Before the update, I could simply use the button on the right side of the phone to have Sound, Silence or Vibrate. Now I can't and it makes absolutely no sense at all.

Install Beautiful Widgets from the market (free), and then you can have a "silent" widget and a "vibrate" widget. Easy.

Slider puts the phone on vibrate
It depends. If you have the Vibrate setting under Sound to "Only when not in silent", the slider will actually silence everything. If you have Vibrate set to "Always", the slider puts it in vibrate mode. The only issue is that they still haven't fixed the bug where it will re-enable the vibrate setting when you turn sound back on.

You guys are all obvuiously missing the point. It seems really **bleep** that I would need to install widgets to have easy control of my volume when the old software version had all 3 settings right at my fingertip. I change from silent to vibrate to sounds about 10 different times a day and going into settings to toggle between the 3 is like going back to the 1990's. I have supposedly one of the best phones on the market and I'm going backwards with my ease of use.

This may sound like a crazy question, but here goes anyway. If you want your phone to be slient, why not just turn it off? Wear a watch to keep time and once you are back where you can receive calls turn the phone back on. Just a question.

I seem to have found a way to silent the phone without turning it off. Granted the calls go directly to mailbox, but the phone is still on. Hold the power button and when options appear place the phone in airplane mode. The phone will not vibrate nor will it ring. Hope this helps. Good luck
