Volume Fix in Upcoming Firmware/System Update?

Does anyone know how to confirm whether the upcoming update officially tries to fix the volume problem?

In order to fix the volume problem, a tech support person for Verizon told me over the phone to return my Droid X to the corporate store where I purchashed it (last Wednesday morning) for a brand new replacement.

Some people at the Verizon corporate store tell me that the upcoming firmware/system update will include a fix for the volume problem - including the speakerphone part and the ear piece part. However, the two PDF files regarding the upcoming update on the Verizon website do not list volume among the fixes. I asked the people at the Verizon store how they know that the upcoming update will include a fix for the volume problem (just code the phone to send more power to the speakers?), I could not get a straight answer. I asked if they received a corporate memo, and they said no. I asked a couple of other ways that Verizon could have notified them (and us, really), and they said no, no. They said they just have a way of accessing information about the upcoming update and the info says that it includes a fix for the volume problem. That would be nice if true, but sounds rather vague to me.

Does anyone know how to confirm whether the upcoming update officially tries to fix the volume problem?

If there is no volume fix in the upcoming update, does anyone know of any apps that provide greater control over the phone power management such that we could manually increase the amount of power that the phone sends to the speakers?

I've found a handful of forums with new Droid X owners complaining about low volume for ringing and music, some with video even. I guess the problem is pretty serious as not many people really use forums. So the numbers are much larger than the 40 or 50 complaints I've seen so far.

Here is thread already on the low volume issue here on Verizon.

If you have very loud volume, then you my friend are very lucky.

I have to askyou 2 questions.

1.) Were you in a totally quiet room with the phone in your hand?

2.) Do you work for Verizon?

No luck - the update does not help increase the inadequately low volume levels. This is really a shame. The Droid X is such a wonderful device. Any ideas on what people can try doing to get Verizon to acknowledge the volume problem and propose a solution for it? An online petition? A class action law suit. But wait, I otherwise love this phone and Verizon in many important ways is a wonderful company.

Verizon: please work on the volume problem! Your loyal customers love your product and need your help using it: many of us cannot hear sounds coming through the speaker phone. Some customers cannot hear their phones ringing. Other customers cannot hear directions spoken while using both Google Maps Navigation and VZ Navigator. They are such great programs and they work so well on this amazing phone, except that we cannot hear the verbal directions that are supposed to come through the speakers.

Any tech savy people: could you please work on a way to change the firmware (or develop an appropriate app) so that the phone sends more power to the speakers when the volume is set to high? Could some extended battery management app allow people to tell the phone to send more power to the speakers? Does anyone know whether this is possible and if so what it would take?

Please help solve the low volume problem.

I might shoot a video of the low volume and post it to youtube.

It's pretty dang low.

I have a hi-def panasonic camcorder that shoots 1080p and has a 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Mic built into it, it's pretty high end and faithful to what you hear.

I could quiet my room and shoot some video with the 5.1 mic and also offer up some other sounds for comparison.

I know for a fact that if I tapped my fingers, had the TV on, played with my keys, It would cut the sound of the phone out. Sure I could still hear the phone but only barely. Just not making this up.

Phone needs to be much louder

No I do NOT work for Verizon

it was the speakerphone doing the initial programming

It might be different playing music...... I will test that today if I get a chance..
