I'm going to try and answer this without violating any TOS rules, here. One of the most common video files supported by Droid X is the MPEG-4 file....also seen in a filename as ".mp4" Movies are commonly in this format.
The internet is overflowing with countless websites that contain MPEG-4 files. If you can download an MPEG-4 file to your home computer, then you can transfer it to your phone via the USB cable (or one of the more clever apps I've seen out there). If you find something to download, make sure the file type matches what types your phone supports. I didn't see AVI in list of supported video types, so downloading an AVI file (another common type) may be pointless.
Many people like to transfer files to each other using a program called {edit for TOS violation}. Use at your own risk though. Some people love to put viruses in their files just to infect the unlucky computer that downloads it.
I will not post specific websites where free movies are available, as Verizon may see this as a violation. Just perform an internet search on "free movies"......and be VERY careful which sites you go to.

AVI files can be played on the Droid X but they eat up major space, I placed a number of avis on my card and they played fine but for nice quality and small size I suggest 3gp which is the same format that the camera uses and I have been using for my last 5 deffent devices and I did not have to refilter. Now as foor free movies or videos, you may run into a unique situation there do to the video copyright laws.... But they are out there but you are just going to search a little, but like it was reported to be careful because there is a number of infested ones running around out there.. There also is application that you can use to convert your personal dvds to a playable format for your device..
I hope you dont see this being incrypted but I am tring to answer in the sites rules also..
