Well 3G history on my phone update

Well an update to my 3G woes. The tech support person was fantastic. She found settings I did not look for that were incorrect, but alas, we still could not get the 3G radio to come to life. So she sent me to a store to have the phone flashed. BUT stores no longer flash HTC phones. Then why send me to a particular store farther away than the one I planned to.But her bigger concern was why the phone was not picking up the OTA Activation. THE OTA would place settings in NAM that were totally wrong.

Anyways, and to listen to the yahoo's in the store try to tell me why it is not working. SID's wrong.... If that is the case why has the phone worked with the SID I have had for 4 months? I was waiting to hear it was because I had an Alltel plan.

I still feel there is a setting that is not set correctly in the phone since I can not get ANY 3G or 1x service. But another phone will be here later this week.....maybe.

If there is a tech who sneaks by here now and again, feel free to PM me and offer setting suggestions.  My question, is there anyplace else I need to enter my phone number besides in NAM and where the tech sent me, M.IP  NAI and DUN NAI? Those two I missed. Also should the extension be @vzw3g.com for both settings.

AZSALUKI, could you check your settings under M.IP Default profile and check the extensions and PM me?  Thanks

UPDATE: I did find three more settings under Security where the phone number should had been listed. I changed them but I do not know the passwords.

if you are talking about the advanced settings, i believe the default password is 000000 (6 zeros). under M.IP->NAI...the ext is @vzm3g.com. let me know if you need other settings.

When I changed the three areas in Security to the phone number@vzw3g.com and committed, I finally got internet back. However it is constantly roaming between 1x, 3G, and nothing. So I am missing a setting somewhere.

I called tech support back and the person was useless. He wanted to know if it was 1x or 1X? I explained I have internet back, I am missing something, all he did was read from the screen what we did earlier in the day. >>>sigh<<<  I dont want to give up my phone if I can find the setting for the phone to connect and stay 3G.I asked about the password settings for the three areas I corrected, he said the password would be 000000. I know that is not correct.

By having what little I have back, I did get my contacts and weather back though. But it switching over and over is a battery killer.

Budone,

Try dialing *228.  I had a similar problem after 2.2 was pushed to my phone, but reprogramming the phone fixed it.  VZW customer support was of no help in this, after extensive internet searching I decided to try that, and it worked.

Kyl63, I tried that extensively, it did not help.  But then again, I have not tried since I have found a connection. I am trying right now.

The last tech said it is a software issue. I questioned, if it is a software issue, how was I able to at least get some type of connection back by changing settings? He didn't have a reply. I wish I could get Debra from MN I had this morning. She knows her stuff

FYI, the *228 options did not bring my 3G back full time. Still switching between 3G, 1x, and nothing.

I dont know. But I never saw 1x until the update and it would lock there and never come back to 3G. I would have to reboot the phone to have 3G come back and I blamed it on my location. Now, not so sure.

THANK YOU for sharing your settings! The M.IP NAI settings was the issue. Even though I would master delete, when I would correct what I saw, which was 0000007439@vzw3g.com, there were 6 digits added in front of a large amount of empty space that I never saw. (The ten digit number above, showed in every area that needed my phone number)

There is more detail in a PM. Again, thanks alot!

Advance settings..... dial ##778 hit >CALL<   Choose edit. Then you will be asked for a passcode it is 000000

Just be careful in what you do.

i only mentioned that i don't always have 3g. once in a while 1x pops up, but i actually thought this was normal since it's been like that since i got the device. i just figured it's due to being in the desert and depends on what towers i'm near???

Signal strength is important. For me, I would go to 1x and be stuck there. Shutting off the data radio and turning back on did nothing. So I would have to power cycle the phone.

Thanks for replying. I'm in Phoenix and the signal floats between 3G, 1X, and nothing at all. To clarify, because I'm not up on the technical stuff at all, when I dial ##778 and enter the passcode, am I shutting out 3G? Thanks so much!

No.. I had to go there because when I reset my phone OTA activation would not populate my phone number and a bunch of other things. So I had no data.

Prior to resetting, My data would drop to 1x and would not recover. I would not go lurking in Advance settings if your signals stays on 3G most of the time. If the signal is constantly changing, then maybe a master or factory reset may help. But save everything you want first to the SD card.

wahine.....i'm in phoenix to (north...I-17 and the 101). mine bounces around too, but i never drop calls and they always sound fine....so i don't worry about it. browsing seems pretty fast and it is "usually" on 3g. if you're not having issues with quality or dropped calls, then there really isn't a reason to be in those settings. budone had an issue where his got ALL messed up. but if you still always have a signal, and it's just dropping to 1x sometimes, i think it's normal. if you are actually getting no signal or dropping calls, then you may want to look into it.

Thanks, guys. Guess I'll play safe and not do anything for now since I get a signal most of the time. If I get totally disgusted I'll do a master reset. I use the web A LOT and sometimes get really frustrated waiting for some signal to show up. But I don't get calls dropped, so I guess it's normal. Call quality is just "decent" and sometimes garbled, but I'm just spoiled because my previous phones had perfect sound quality, like the person was there with me.

Bye from the South Mountain area, AZSALUKI! Thanks again, Budone.

Hi Budone ... Just wondering if you can remember all the settings you had that needed to be set to your phone number?  I had absolutely no mobile data (no 3G or even 1X) after a factory reset after the 2.2 OTA.  I changed the settings under security you mentioned and all of a sudden I had mobile data again though it seems sketchy.  I tried verizon tech support before this and they were no help ... how did you manage to get someone who knew what needed to be adjusted?  Thanks!
