What happened to Gingerbread for the DROID X?

I haven't had my original Droid X long, but I gotta say I'm kind of **bleep** off at Verizon for not releasing this new version of Android to one of its best phones just so they can make money on the new X2 which is the exact same phone besides a dual core processor....big deal....Anyways the people at Verizon need to get a reality check and need to keep up on one of their best phones, the DROID X. Now don't get me wrong I have no complaints about the phone, I just have seen what the new Gingerbread would bring to the original X and I gotta say it's pretty sweet. OH but I guess the "playstation" phone deserves it first....hmmmm how many of those are they gonna sell. Anyways......just release the update already and keep an older phone one of the top of the lines.

Has Gingerbread for the Droid X been cancelled? Does anyone have a press release or something that says that this is cancelled? I am very worried. My contract has another year on it.

What there doing with gingerbred now is there're sending it out to there pocket Testers Moto is Doing this to see how its working on the Devices i've got a Dx too i havent received a update notice yet eather so be Patient its coming but before you update Talk to Wildman an ask him about doing a reset that way you have a fresh Device before you load Ginger on it. Other wise you may encounter problems. an one other thing Developers are probably starting to update there sofeware to work with Ginger But if you see issues they havent got All the Buggs out of it. But they Will Eventually.
Too All there: Please Have a Safe Happy an Memorial Day !

Wow so many things to reply too:
The Droid X2 is similar to the original DX, differences = dual core Nvidia processor compared to the TI ARM processor in the original DX. Better screen too, apparently.
As for 'holding off' um, the DX2 launched with Froyo as well.
And to the last poster, the Nexus 1 is having Gingerbread 2.3.4 pushed ota as we speak, it's just a matter of Motorola getting the software right and Verizon signing off on it. It was widely reported that Verizon had signed off on May 6ths for a May 13 OTA push, if they held that up, it suggests a game changing defect was found and they are awaiting a new test build from Motorola.

This is still a rumor because niether Verizon or Motorola has officially released any information, just because it is on one device doesnt mean all devices will get it... Runors are just that until a official report.
I dont question it is coming but no info has been released from the source...

Ha Ha, of course they would have some information hit just as I said that it wasn't any official report..
But I still stand on my opinion that the update will hit when it hits.... Just hope that info isn't another hot air moment..

I read on Computerworld news this morning that Motorola confirmed the DroidX will get GB by the end of the 2nd quarter June 30th.

That is essentially what was in the Motorola forum post I linked. DX 'before the end of the second quarter' the rest, third quarter.

What is funny, dirkbonn, is if you follow that article's source back to the original tip, the tip came from one of our own VZW employee's post on this community
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Yeah, well, it probably won't be the last time.... haha! Most likely a little wishful thinking on my part too.
Actually my Droid X with 2.2.1 in running just sweet.... couldn't ask for a better running phone.
But I'm sure I'll upgrade to gb when it does get released, cuz I like what the Verizon pdf says about it. However, I usually wait a day or two just to see how it's working out for everyone before taking the plunge
Another thing that made appear to be the real deal is the gb upgrade information on their support web pages.
So I remain..... patiently waiting....

It's a test. They send it to a small subset of users to ensure it works or not. Better to start small before going all out. If problem arises then a small number of users are affect vs thousands of users.
