What value accrues with Screen Lock on as opposed to just letting it go to sleep?

LOL Ok. Thing is, do you actually know that that is the only value that does accrue or, are you just guessing?

what would your preference be? no lock at all ?? if that is what you're hinting at, then I would think that any tap on the screen - wanted or unwanted at all - would result in apps being launched unexpectedly .. e.g., butt calls ... My old LG DARE had that issue - I was constantly calling people when I had not intended to.

No, if I hit the Power button, the DX goes to sleep and the Screen shuts down which in effects prevents inadvertent Calls or application interaction. The Question is, what value does adding Swipe Unlock as an additional step provide to me?
You have to hit the power switch to wake the phone in either case.
Case 1 Phone to sleep. phone rings. Need to swipe left to right to be able to answer the phone.
Case 2 Phone to sleep. Phone rings. Just press the button to answer the phone
Case 1 adds an extra step.
Does Case 1 which requires left to right swipe do any thing else to add any value to justify using it?

Yes it has because if pressing a button is all that is required to answer a incoming call there wont be a call screening option, and pressing a button can happen by accident but the slide action requires more of a acknowledge response... Also keep in mind that the home button can also wake your device up from a sleep state and without the slide to unlock feature or password you can trigger a number of unknown calls or software modification when moving around in pocket. purse or even in some cases.
I chose to bypass the stock lock screen and use WidgetLocker as my lockscreen because it has more user options. Another thing you can try No Lock from Market to see if it disables slider, it seems to work for some but not everyone for some reason.

OK thanks. Since My DX stays either on a table top or in a Hard shell case and I don't need to screen calls I will dispense with the swipelock and just rely on the locked screen that occurs when it goes to sleep.

I am sorry the question was/N unclear.
If the DX goes to sleep, the screen locks. To unlock and Wake Up, you need to push one of two hardware buttons. (Power or Home)
There is a Swipe to Unlock function where you have to swipe across the screen left to right to complete the Unlock / Wakeup pricess.
The original question was is there any reason to add the swipe lock other than the obvious prevention of inadvertent unlock / wakeup.
The answer appears to be "No
".
Edit to add Question
The next question is how do I turn Swipe lock off?
In 2.1 I had the option to turn swipe lock either on or off.
In 2.2 swipe lock seems to be on by default with no way toturn it off.
Any help would be appreciated.

I thought presented a solution for this, the only reported way to disabe the slide feature is to download the No Lock app from market, but its not perfect because it seem to not work the same for everyone but developer is working on a update to resolve, I am assuming it probally another app interacting. I am using it and it seems to not work at startup but after unlocking the slider does not show again until reboot. All I can suggest is give it a try and see what luck you have.
Good luck on resolving this issue...
