it's a lot easier to wait for something when you know why you're waiting.

I want an answer too!  It seems that Verizon is ignoring its original DROID customers.

you think you're ignored now waiting for 2.2 for the original Droid, you'll never see 3.0. reports say the processor has to be 1 ghz or faster so no gingerbread for original droid. hey, look on the bright side, once you get flash 10.1, you'll have nothing more to wait for either moto or vzw to put you through their finger pointing process of (VZW waiting for MOTO to release update, no MOTO said they're waiting for VZW to okay release :smileysad: - you can't get a straight answer from either one)

I like you am waiting for these two knuckleheads to finally give the okay and update my droid so i can at least go on the pizza hut website or hulu, or any other flash enabled site on the web as promised by their motorola adds back around Christmas time.

To be honest I believe it's sad that they are not providing us an official date.

They haven't provided an official date because things could change. First Motorola has to test it. At any point they could find something big, and have to go back and ask for fixes (or create their own). This would result in starting the testing again. Once Motorola is done, Verizon will test (they are probably doing this in parallel, but Verizon likely won't finish until after Motorola does). Same thing, at any point they could have to start over.

If they provide us with a date, and then need to back pedal, we will all be screaming because they have lied to us. It's a no win situation.

We'll see it when they are comfortable releasing it.

I agree with what you say that they have to test but i dont understand why it takes so long software is already out on droid x and other phones already have flash player and we dont even get that i dont see why the first phone is the last to get a good update on it

Considering that the only phone in the WORLD with 2.2 is the Nexus One, I'm thinking your complaints are a bit premature.  As for Flash, it can be had, you just need to search the web for a few seconds.  Verizon is notorious for testing features before releasing updates, this should come as no suprise.  They want the best possible user experience before pushing an update out.  As for Droid owners being a priority, why would they be?  Verizon already has your money for the phone, you're not upgrading, their priorty is and SHOULD BE to make money.  It's not required that they update your phone at ALL.  The fact that they are working on it goes to show that they DO care about their customers.  In other words: Calm Down. :smileyhappy:

But Flash will not work on the Droid untill we get the 2.2 update.

But MOTO gave us 2.1 and  'PINCH"  that should amount for something, for their efforts right. ; ) I believe the delay is that VZW is trying to figure out how to charge us for some features MOTO placed in the update.  check your bill after the update drops.

I am sure we will get it soon. What does being a loyal customer have to do with this? This update is not just for verizon but for other carrier's android devices too.

We are not really getting the run around.  Verizon is most likely trying to kill the Wifi Tethering built into 2.2 or trying to make a modification so that they can charge for it.  Also, they are extreamly slow in releaseing software updates.  From the time 2.1 was released it was about 3-4 months before the Over the Air update when out.   Google released 2.2 in June, so September/October is a more realistic expectation of when it will be released.   Also Verizon does not like to give out any information on updates.  They prefer to keep us in the dark for what ever reason....

Your only option to waiting is to put 2.2 on the phone yourself and take the risk that is associated with doing that...

Seems that everyone always thinks their entitled to something.  Anyways, Froyo updates are rumored to begin late next week but who knows.

Entitled - theres that word again....  misused in this context - AGAIN.    Its not a feeling of entitlement...   Its more like - getting what you paid for.   Consider the fact that some companies - in their haste to make money - start selling an device that is incomplete.  (Droid)  They market it correctly (with promises of future development) The public rushes to purchase from the big name company, because their reputation says they will make good on the promised development.

When you consider the sheer speed delivered by 2.2 with an OS upgrade - and No Other Hardware Change...  can you see how the scenario above comes into play?    The company CHARGED full price for a device that would be completed at some future date.   Before you start whining about how the individual could have purchased something else - Don't go there.   That line of thinking is wrong.

We paid up front for the development we are all waiting for.    It is not an entitilement mentality that We Want What We Paid For!

You didn't pay for the Froyo update.  Technically speaking, Verizon and Motorola didn't even have to update the Droid to Froyo.  Receiving the update is a privilege, not a right.

They do if they want to compete with AT&T and the iPhone, which is kind of the point, isn't it?

What do you mean an update is a priviledge, not a right? I've been in programming 25 years and I never heard that one before.

OS are always updating and aren't exclusive to devices. If an OS needs to be fixed or allow better service, then people get an upgrade.

I just bought my Droid X two weeks ago with the promise of getting the Android 2.2 operating system. So, it is my right. I originally bought the HTC incredible but cancelled the order for the Droid X. That was back in June and I was told Android 2.2 was coming my way.

As for everyone else on this board, it is their right too. We pay Verizon for a service. The 2.2 upgrade is going to fix some bugs from 2.1 as well.

I have two more weeks to further test my phone. If Android 2.2 isn't out by the end of next week, I'm sticking with my current cell phone provider.

That's my priviledge.

I personally don't care about the teethering. When Verizon decided to charge I decided to stay with my current cell phone provider and their computer data plan. I plan on keeping my Droid X phone use and my data use exclusive of each other - so I can better track the bills.

I do want to say that I'm very pleased with Verizon's service. I JUST WANT FROYO 2.2!

Otherwise, we can all get iPhones.

Ha! I doubt people would switch to the iPhone. Have you seen all the complaints on the iPhone 4 about the antenna issue? It's a mess. Plus people will just wait for 2.2. Patience....patience.

Good luck with that.  2.2 isn't likely to be out for the X until September.
