The phone worked fine until about an hour ago.  I haven't dropped it or anything else that may damage it.  Anyone have ideas?

Have you checked your in-call volume?   Try placing a call and then adjust volume with up and down buttons on right side of phone because it sounds like volume may be turned down.

I've had the phone for a few months and now I have this problem.  I've checked the incoming volume (its set to high) and I've taken out the battery to reboot 3 times.  It still has not resolved the problem.  And yes my phone has been updated to 2.2.  Help please.

If call volumes are okay, and these are volumes you would use while talking and being spoken to, and not the ringtone volumes, I would check the settings. Check the sound settings to make sure that the Silent Mode is not checked off.and neither of the Smart Sensor Settings are checked off. These two have caused a host of problems. Long shot but have you checked Airplane mode? I don't know if this silences everything or just the ringtone.

This is what I would call a game ender problem.  If you've checked your settings and made sure the phone isn't on mute I would take it to the store for to have them check it out.  Honestly in cases where the phone has annoyances this website is a great tool.  In cases where the phone is inoperable, you just gotta bite the bullet and head to the store.

Hi my name is Leslie Verizon Wireless Employee. Try a soft reset on device. If checking volume on phone and still not able to hear caller or caller hear you.

Soft Reset
Press the Power key.
Touch Power off.
Touch OK.
Press the Power key to power on the device
.
Note: If device is non-responsive have user remove and reinstall battery and power on device.

Happened to me once, a simple reboot fixed it.

I havent had that issue on my X but have on previous phones.  Just try rebooting.  The issue should resolve itself.

I ended up needing to do a battery pull to get it to work again.  It has since done it 2 more times, hopefully it does not become more consistent.

This is a bit odd, but my wife just had this problem with her KinTwoM. I tried all of the standard approaches with no luck. Then, I gently sucked on the mic. The phone works now. Perhaps there was some buildup in the mic?
