Why does my signal dissapear when I make a call?

Just windering... As my phone sits next to me, it show 3g and full bars. When I place a call, the 3g vanishes and i loose all but one bar. I have updated my roaming and dont move when making the call. It does this no matter where I am. Why?

The voice call is connecting with the CDMA signal which is separate from the EDVO signal. The EDVO is for data connection only. This is also why you can't have a voice and data at the same time when you are not connecting to a wifi connection.
