Why has Verizon put out an update that is breaking most people's phones?!?!

This to me is unacceptable for a company the size of Verizon! I have many friends who have a Droid X as well and every one of them have had nothing but problems with their phone after installing the update.
Something needs to be done about this by Verizon!
Did they not test this update properly?
Why are we having to do factory resets and having to basically start all over because Verizon has failed us as a responsible service providor.
Once again this is totally unacceptable to me and something has to be done by Verizon ASAP so more people won't have half of their day ruined by having to wrestle their phone after trusting the update that they are offering.
Yet again another rediculas failure by Verizon.

I understand your frustration and apologize for the inconvenience. The issue you are experiencing with the phone turning off when you pull it into the wall charger is not a known issue. We may need to further troubleshoot to determine the cause if this problem.
The best option would be to visit one of stores so we can duplicate the issue. Click here to find the nearest store. If you are unable to visit one of our store you can send us a PM with your contact information and the best time to reach you. You can also tweet us @VZWSupport and we will be more then happy to assist you.
Thank you.

Verizon did not make the update, Motorola did.
What problems are you experiencing? If you do a search on this forum, you will find a fix for quite a few of them, I would bet.

Thanks for the shout out. To Steven, I upgraded to gingerbread without doing a factory reset. My DX rebooted every few minutes after the update. I did a factory reset then, and I haven't had any issues since.

And why should I have to do a factory reset and start all over? My phone has been bugging me every 12 hours to install the previously downloaded GB update. I refuse to do so. I don't want to become one of the many people here on this forum or on the Motorola forum or the Android forum that are sorry they installed GB.

So you downloaded it, but didn't install it? That's why it's bugging you. There should be an option to select that does not automatically update the software. Should take care of that problem.
You don't have to do a factory reset. But it's known that doing one right after updating makes the update run smoother.

I downloaded the GB update, but after reading many comments, I am afraid to install it. Is there a way for me to get my phone to uninstall the download or to quit reminding me to install it? My only two choices seem to be "install now" or "install later" with it reminding me every hour. Please help!!!!!

I saw another post asking this (maybe it was yours?) but I can't remember if there was a fix for it or not...
I can say, though, not to be scared of GB. I know that sounds silly to say, but myself along with quite a few others on here have not had any problems with it. In fact, a lot of people have reported that doing a factory reset completely fixes any issues they had once they updated.

vereyezuhn is right, I installed GB when it first became available for my X. I've had no problems with it whatsoever. I'm glad I did it and would do it again.

Thanks for the reassurance. I am still a bit leary of it, though. I had been having issues with my battery not lasting for a full day any more (phone is 7 months old). Took it to Verizon store twice. I had already turned off bluetooth, etc. to save power. Guy there just tried to quickly go on my phone and change some settings. It is somewhat better, but still not happy, so I thought the upgrade may be a good idea. Now I am not so sure. Silly question, but how to I restore factory settings? It already says Version 2.3.340 in the "about phone" area. I thought that was the updated version. Now I am really confused!

I personally have had a longer battery life with GB. Can't really talk for others on that, though. Go into your Settings - Battery Manager -- Battery Usage and see if there's a specific app draining your battery, so you can turn it off or uninstall it, etc.

be afraid! Be very afraid! Read the posts! There's MANY folks who have had troubles, major troubles since installing GB. Some reputable VZ tech support employees will actually agree with you. The dishonest ones will not

No disrespect but on the same note it didnt help with regular post from users demanding a update and then bring up sueing because its not released when they think it should be... I understand that its never feels right to purchase a device that has issues but some users buy a item on rumors of what they think will be coming to device but not for what device has at time of purchase and this is a mistake. If the device doesnt have what you want in a device when you got it dont get mad and complain when developers dont instantly deliver.
The update did not break users devices, under some situation the issues usually came from unsupported apps but also I do acknowledge that some users just happened to be one of those unlucky users that just didnt have luck with the update and I feel for you but you have to think that the number of users on forum is only a small number of users that own the device and greater numbers hasnt had issues compared to the handfull reporting issues.
The update isnt perfect, nothing is when it comes to software and hardware... Hope all users experiancing issues can find a working solution soon.

There are those of us that have discovered that, for us anyway, restoring, reformatting, re-initializing, whatever makes for a cleaner upgrade. That's why we offer, without judgement (as opposed to what some would have you believe) our experience with upgrading the various pieces of digital equipment.
And I'm not about to apologize for it. EVER.
If installing Windows 7 over Windows 3.1 blows yer skirt up, then go for it.

Either you factory reset prior to downloading and installing gingerbread or you don't. However, I am sure that there are more users who are not having any problems once they downloaded and installed gingerbread than those with problems. Whenever you go to a forum, any forum, you are going to read about those who have experienced some sort of difficulty. In more cases than not, it is usually a buggy apps which is causing the problem. In some cases it is the user who has caused the problem by doing something they should not have done. I myself have not encountered any problems. Also, don't blame Verizon for gingerbread. It was Motorola who designed it.

the upgrade to GB was horrific. don't believe the Verizon staff when they tell you that your App's data is safe if you move the app to the SD card. if you have to do a factory reset to keep the phone from randomly rebooting itself 5-10x a day, be prepared to lose MOST of your data; despite that Verizon customer service will tell you that you will be able to back up MOST of your data. It's not true. Unless the app has a feature to export the data and re-import it; or some other means to back the data to the SD card, you're likely losing the data. While there are apps to save your angry birds data (haha... i got my priorities straight, right?), it's unlikely you'll find a backup app for every app you have on your phone; so be prepared to lose alot of info like i did.
you're almost held to doing the factory reset otherwise finish out the contract w/ a phone that would reboot in the middle of telephone conversations, music, games, record keeping apps, etc. and i couldn't see how i wouldn't break the phone against a wall before my remaining 1-1/2 yrs was up if i didn't do the factory reset.
