Why is my new Droid X sluggish? I am really having a horrible experience with my new phone

I thought I would come here in the hopes of getting this issue with my new Droid X's sluggish U.I. fixed.

I drove 3 hours round trip from Hiawatha, Kansas to Topeka Kansas to purchase my Droid X. I left at 4am, met a friend for breakfest and she waited with me in line until she had to leave for work. I think I have maybe 6 hours invested in going to get this phone yesterday morning. And that was the fun part.

It wasn't until I got home that I noticed the U.I. ( user interface ) was very sluggish. It's just almost unusable. In fact, it's hurting my experince with this phone greatly.

I called Verizon and the sales clerk told me he knew of the problem with the U.I. being sluggish and told me to "pull the battery" while the device was on. Which I did. He explained to me this was safe and would cause the phone to do a soft reset. He thought that might help me. After I got off the phone with him, I did exactly this. However, It did not help.

I also turned to Gizmodo, Hardocp and various other formus on this very subject looking for a solution. A lot of people are reporting the same issues.

Is there anyone here with Verizon that can help me with my problem? A magic phone trick or code or something to that effect that would make my phones U.I. run as buttery and silky smooth as my old iPhone?

I've tried everything. Killing processes, removing applications. Some have told me to use a different U.I. application. I've even pulled the battery a few times. Nothing is working.

If this is how my new phone is going to perform, then no thanks. I do not want this experience and will return it. I had heard so many great things about the Droid experince. After my 6 hour time investement, the new two year contract, the cost of gas, etc. This has really just been a bad experince. I'm into this for several hundred dollars and when I use my phones U.I. to navigate around on my new Droid X, it's just a very poor experience.

I would really appreciate any help for anyone.

A lot of the sluggish, and resetting phone issues have been resolved with an over-night charge.  While the UI for Motorola isn't as snappy as on the HTC Incredible, mine is far from laggy or sluggish.

If your problems persist you may look into performing a hard reset.  Your users manual should show you how to do this.  Just back up all your contacts first as it will reset everything back to stock.

I am really discouraged so far. I am not sure in the logic of me having to pull the battery, remove things, add things, hard resets, soft resets, full charges etc to get to the point where I can enjoy my Droid X. Which I should add, hasn't helped at all.

I've just been recently told not to run any ofthe Live Wallpapers.

I shouldn't have to do anything with my new phone but enjoy it right out of the box. And that has yet to happen.

The one screen with all the icons. I absolutely don't dare go to that screen. It's like watching stop motion on my Droid X.

What I am hoping for is someone from Verizon giving me a secret code, or magic phone trick to fix my problem. I've had them do this sort of thing to help boost my signal in the past.

I think everybody would like a magic code to fix things but sometimes this isn't always the case. You purchased this phone on day one so you should have been somewhat aware that there may be some glitches and bugs. The methods that are being suggested usually helps fix the problem. Hopefully you'll take these suggestions and enjoy your new Droid X!

Like I said, my Droid X is working perfectly.  If you just happened to get a bad one, it happens.  Like I've said before Car makers sell cars for $50k that have issues and have to be swapped out or recalled.  So why would we expect a $600 phone to have 0 issues.

I do appreciate the suggestions so far. And yes, I've tried them all other than the hard reset. Sadly, nothing changed.

I'm not wanting to return the phone and to be honest, I am embarassed having to come here or anywhere else for that matter to discuss the issues I'm having. I really hate to complain.

But you guys are right, it's a new phone, it's not the faster snappier HTC U.I. that a lot of people just love. This is a Motorola Droid X and I have to live with the fact the U.I. is not as snappy as pointed out to me.

I will just live with the sluggish U.I. and hope that on future phones they can figure out how to make the U.I, a better experince. I know they were under a lot of pressure to bring this phone to market because of the iPhone 4. Maybe they just didn't have the time to get the U.I. as nice as some of the other Droid phones out there. I can understand that.

I also found out that the Droid X has an older generation GPU, the PowerVR SGX530, I think the fill rate is around 16 million - 18 million triangles per second.

The new Galaxy S ( Samsung Fascinate ) coming soon to Verizon has the newer PowerVR SGX540 that has a fill rate of arond 90 million triangles per second. So 3x the performance.

So just from a hardware prospective, I guess I should accept the slower sluggish U.I. performance from the Droid X.

As for the Hardware perspective. The GPU of the Galaxy will be faster, but the main processor will be slower.  The GPU will help on things such as games etc.  Samsung is a lot like HTC in standing behind their products, they are quicker to release an updated phone than fix the problems on something that's hit the market.

If you are having real issues with your phone that the suggestions didn't fix by all means call or visit a store and ask them to send out for a warranty replacement.  You will have to wait for it, but better to get the ball rolling now on it.

The issues you have described sound nothing like what I'm experiencing with my phone.  My phone is pretty quick scrolling from screen to screen, even switching to the media tab I only get a fraction of a second of delay as the image loads.  All the other tabs are pretty much instantaneous.

Here's a setting you can try to disable and see if it helps:  Under settings, pick Sound & Display settings, scroll down to the display settings section.  The second option entitled "animations" set it for "no animations"  No go back to settings and enter "battery manager"  click battery profile and select "performance mode."  Doing this made all my screen changes INSTANT it's even quicker than HTC Incredible's stock setting, no lag what so ever.  I can scroll back and forth on the little bar for changing home screens, and as fast as I touch the next dot the screen is up.

made my phone a rocket machine! This thing is screaming fast now. I was a little concerned with sluggish performance here and there but now it is not an issue.

Now if I could just get texting to work...trying everyone, contacted Handcent developer, shutting down all apps, still no bueno. Next is to reset phone, wipe all contacts, dont import any social contacts, and give it a whirl.

Thanks!

I noticed a little glitch when changing pages but after I installed Launcher Pro all went away, now dont get me wrong, the glitch was so miner that most wouldnt even notice it and other that page transition everything is running smooth without issues... Like reported you nay just be running into a fluke situation...  Try Launcher pro its free on the market and see if you notice any diffrence.. Also if you dont have a task manager it may be something to look into.

I agree completely, Task killer is the first app I download on all my android phones.

Ok wanted to update everyone here.

I tried out Launcher Pro along with Beautiful Widgets and .... WOW

Night and day difference.

Smooth and beautiful.

I am just shocked that the stock shipping U.I. is so sluggish. I know for a fact they could have done much better.

At any rate, I am very happy now.
