Wife needs a new phone, coming from Blackberry Curve?, and likes keyboard. Droid Pro or X Global?

My wife has an old Blackberry Curve I think? It's a pink 8000 series phone. She's not into high tech stuff, and HATES my touchscreen thunderbolt. I told her she'd get used to it in time. But I thought that since they do make Andriod phones with actual keyboards still... that it's between the Droid Pro or the Droid X2 Global. Global isn't a feature she'd ever use. It's all about which phone is faster and more reliable. She isn't nearly as patient as I am. So random reboots and data connectivity will throw her into a blind rage. She also doesn't need 4G right now. Personally, I think she should get the Incredible 2 and deal with the virtual keyboard. It's not that bad. The Incredible 2 has Swype, where as my Tbolt doesn't. I hear that's a great way to text. I use ThumbKeyboard and really like it. I first tried SwiftKey but I didn't care for it, especially after trying ThumbKeyboard.

My wife is old school, and she does a LOT of talking on the phone. She's in sales. So it's all about talk and text. She doesn't use the enterprise server feature though. I think she'd love some of the Android app's though. She has an iPod, but she'd probl like to be able to have some music on her phone too for backup. So I'd likely have to purchase her a larger card.

First thing I'm going to do regardless, is dial in her Gmail addy book to have ALL of her contacts in it. It will make the switch much easier. My Gmail addy book is now my "Master" with ALL my contacts. I was using Backup Assistance (she does too), but I just exported all of mine online into my gmail account and went thru them all and cleaned them up. I then exported my Gmail addy book into Backup assistant... but I'm not sure if I even need to use BA?

Anyway...any advise on a phone?

Thanks!

I went from a BlackBerry Curve 8530 to a Droid Pro because I wanted a similar keyboard. Although the keyboard is not bad on the Droid Pro, the device itself leaves a few things to be desired. I tried 2 different Droid Pro's from Verizon and both reboot at random, and they had scratchy audio which would clearly be an issue for you. So I switched to a Droid 2 Global and I'm very happy. The landscape keyboard takes some getting used to, but as a BlackBerry user I'm really very happy with it. Droid 2 Global is also faster than the Droid Pro, has a much bigger and higher resolution display, supports GSM overseas, and has better build quality in my opinion. I'd say the only downside of the Droid 2 Global is the added bulk.

I feel like your wife, I refuse to depend on screen-only keyboards, especially coming from BlackBerry.

Your post pretty much confirmed my suspicions. I don't like the way the Driod Pro looks for one. It looks too much like a giant BB Tour, and the screen size is small. I do like the Droid 2's look and design much more. But don't thiey make a Droid 2 that's "non-global"? If so, is there a difference? I didn't see a non-global offering on their site, and she'll never travel oversea's. If the D2G is slower than a D2 (if there is one), I'd like to know where you can buy them. Thanks!
