I still have 1.5 weeks to return my phone. Was hoping to at least hear if the update fixed the current problems with the phone.

Its going back on the 23rd, rather lose 35.00 dollars over having a phone the could have more problems after an update. Plus, they could release it on the 23rd and then delay it again" Droid 1 2.2 update memories".

For those who quote Moto's late summer release date. This link is to their official site and timeline. Please read the last paragraph before you run off to your lawyer's office if it is not released by the 23rd.
"The information contained herein is provided for information purposes only and is intended only to outline Motorola’s presently anticipated general technology direction. The information communicated is not a commitment or an obligation to deliver any product, product feature, software upgrade or functionality and Motorola reserves the right to make changes to the content and timing of any product, product feature or software release. I was just going to return the phone, not lawyer up. I just look the info up this morning, because Verizon told me that a software update is suppose to be released to address the problems I called about. I have a 30 days to return the device and cannot get straight answer as to when a software update will be issued to address the current problems. I like the device, but choose not to take the gamble, when and if the issues will be addressed. I read the full statement, we are past late summer, 3 days summer is over. Someone could possibly have information related to the release of a software update, which could help me decide on returning or keeping the device.

The only big issue I care about being fixed in the update is the low ringtone volume. And since I have a good workaround now, I'm not that worried about it. And I have no other issues with the phone. Flash, Schmash...but that's just me...
And as far as I have looked and read, I can find nowhere, no place, no way, no how, ANY word WHATSOEVER about whether the ringer volume issue has been addressed in the update.
Lucky me, my X serves me well. Especially considering that I bought on Day **bleep** (Fine, DOGGONE!) 1...

I have never experienced the low volume issue. To me, this sounds like your X has a bad speaker; a problem I encountered more than once with my collection of BB Storm's.
As far as Flash goes... that is part of the reason I bought the phone (the other was the 1GHz processor). The promise of Adobe Flash has eluded many phones. Before I got my X, RIM and Adobe were still working on a version of Flash that would work with the Blackberry OS.
The promise of Flash, in the near future, was a motivating factor to get this phone. To say that I am highly disappointed that we yet don't have 2.2 is an understatement. Before the phone came out, the Droid Does site said Flash 10.1 in August 2010. The original press release said the latter half of summer (which could mean August).
With Summer fading away fast, my patients for this update is wearing thin. I only wish I could return the phone, but alas, I got my launch day when Verzion was filling our heads with dancing sugarplum's and other flights of fantasy.
Just to get us to spend $300 and sign our lives away for two more years.
Alright Forum Police... come and slap the cuffs on me.

Glocker,
My comment was not directed to you. I just know someone is going to use your link to quote Moto stating a late summer release on their official site and I wanted to point out the "usual" disclaimer at the bottom.
I understand there are those who don't want to take the risk that 2.2 will not fix the problems they are experiencing and it is great if you can return your phone by the 23rd and fall within your 30 day. I have no problem with that.
Me, I can wait (plus I am out of the 30 day). My phone works fine. But, yes, it would be nice if there was some sort of updating on the update. But, I do know that almost never happens with any of the manufacturers and providers.
Anyways here is to you having your X on the 23rd with the update.

I've just read some of the other post, and see why you posted that info. I just can't understand why, Verizon keeps saying that a software update will fix those problems, gives a date with no guarantee. If someone calls due to a problem with a device, they should say that's a know problem and as of right now we don't know when or if any software updates will be issued to correct the problem. Maybe start a known issues page, that informs the customer of how and when issues will be addressed. I hate it when a company gives a false date or timeline and then fails to provide info. as to why they failed to meet it. Hopefully updates to address current problems get managed better in the future.

I have to disagree that the X is not the premier at the current time. My wife's D2 doesn't hold a candle to the screen that we have. If they would just take off all that Moto crap there would be no contest even.
I know that sooner or later (probably sooner) the X is going to look like the D1 next to the greatest and latest but not yet.
I do wish they would honor their commitment for late summer. I have friends on the DX running 2.2 leak with very few problems. If they were that close a month ago, they should be done by now. (I chose to wait for the official update)

The technology in the screens is the same, so you must be talking about the size. Some users might find the X's screen makes the phone too big, so since the technology is the same I'd say it's a wash. Same with the physical keyboard, some like it some don't. But the D2 has more RAM than the X and it isn't spending (hopefully only) 2-3 months of it's 2 year contract period (if you bought on launch day like I did) running 2.1. The D1 is the phone that brought Moto back from obscurity and the D2 is it's natural successor as premier handset. The D2 will also get Gingerbread before the X, if the X gets it at all.

Actually you are wrong... both phones have 8gb internal memory, and the X comes with a 16gb card, and the D2 comes with a 8gb card. Both phones can go up to a 32gb card.

Burpootus, I have to disagree a bit. D2 does not have more RAM than the DX. Also, D2 was developed with Froyo 2.2 from the getgo so to launch it w/ 2.2 is not akin to a prince and his throne.
D2 i definately not the natural successor and lacks some key markers of a "successor" Like HDMI out.
Also, please indicate why the D2 will get Gingerbread and the X will not.

A question.
If and whne the OTA update arrives, do you have to be on WiFi to get it going?

I stand corrected on the amount of RAM, the X and the D2 both have 512 mb. I also, the D2 getting Gingerbread before the X is only my opinion, I have no official source for this info, but I sure would like to win some money betting on it
