Winmail.dat

When I send a mail with a picture attachment from my laptop and open it with my phone the attachment is a winmail.dat and says it cannot be viewed.  What am I doing wrong or is there an app that needs to be loaded to enable me to see a picture attachment?

When on your computer try to re-save the picture as another type of file. Once you have done this go into your Gmail account and try to attach the new file to an email and send it to yourself. Hope this helps

Make sure your email program is not set to send emails as "rich text" which is the Outlook default.  Only outlook can decipher this format.  Any other program other than Outlook cannot open it, so it wraps the entire message and attachment into a winmail.dat file and attaches it to the email.

In Outlook, you can change settings for each individual contact to either plain text or HTML and it should stop this behavior.
