I got a Verizon Samsung DROID Charge but it has no SIM card. The guy I got it from said he already has one being shipped from some guy on amazon.com. If I put that sim card from amazon.com into the phone will it stop yelling at me for not having a sim card and allow me to use the non-phone functions?
I know I won't get phone/etc until I take it to a verizon store and get a plan or w/e but Im curious if I can just like use the phone this way or is it gonna be a paper weight unless I take it to verizon store.

I couldnt get my Thunderbolt to go past the activation screen until the activation process was completed, so from that information I would guess just butting the SIM in may not change things until the device is activated..

Hi NMast,
4G devices do require a SIM card. Unlike global devices, the SIM card on a 4G device houses network configuration and authentication values as well as subscriber information, such as phone number and content, like text messages and contacts.
So, the SIM card is needed in order to use the Charge. Below are some links with information and frequently asked questions about the SIM card.

You are able to order the SIM card online at My Verizon (at no charge) by logging in to your online account and going through the process to change your device to the Charge. While in the order, once you change the Serial Number of the Charge, the system will know that it is a 4G device. You will then be prompted to enter the SIM number, as well as be asked if a SIM card is needed. Once you let the system know that a SIM card is needed, one will be sent to you at no cost.
Your change to the Charge from your current device will not go through until the SIM card is received and inserted into the Charge. But once the SIM card is inserted, your Droid Charge will activate immediately.
Please make sure to backup your contacts with an existing GMail account, or via Backup Assistant, before activating the SIM, for this reason.
I hope this information is helpful. Have a good weekend!
