Would you trade your Bionic for a Droid Razr?

If Motorola/Verizon finally figured out that they angered users by bringing out an improved phone (Razr) over their heavily hyped  and heavily flawed flagship phone (Bionic) just outside of the return period, would you consider returning your Bionic for a free Razr?

I don't know, probably not. Getting a new Motorola phone is painful.

First off I don't find the Bionic 'heavily flawed' at all, especially coming from a Samsung Charge....that's a 'heavily flawed' phone IMO. So your argument is a non-starter for this discussion in that it's your opinion.

As to the Bionic vs the Razr:

My only concern is battery life. I believe the power output of the Razr battery is only the equal of the extended battery in the Bionic.

The other thing that makes absolutely no sense to me is the battery consumption of the OLED display.  They say these displays consume LESS power than the standard LCD display, yet my experience is exactly the reverse.

My Samsung Charge always showed the OLED display as consuming the most power of anything on the phone...by far! Typically I'd see about 70-80% of battery life taken up by the OLED display.

Yet my Motorola Bionic typically shows about 10% of power being consumed by the display...exactly the reverse of what they say.

So that's why I'm concerned about Razr battery life...especially since you can't replace the sealed battery!

How do you know the Razr won't have as many or more problems than the Bionic?

You don't, but seriously, it can't be bad as the Bionic.

My theory is that they learned about all their screw ups with the Bionic and they'll fix it on RAZR and then release it.  The ones who bought the abomination has to deal with it, I'm not so sure that some of the issues on the Bionic can be fixed with a software update.

You should go back to the Blackberry if you really think it is so much better.  I have not had any data loss problems with the Bionic and think it is a very solid phone.  I would not trade it for a Razr.

Well right now I would trade the BIONIC for something that works. The data loss problem is getting very old. Needed to read a document yesterday while on the phone in 4g area and lost everything. No phone, no data just a brick in my hand. So as for trading it in I would if something else worked. When it works its fine. It seems when I really need that DATA connection for work it fails. More than 60% of the people with this phone having problems of all types.

I still maintain you should never buy a phone as soon as it's released. Give it a while to find out if it's all it's hyped to be and/or if it's full of bugs. It's the same reason they say never buy a new model car the first year after introduction. I would wait 3 months or so before buying a new phone. I'm sure someone will say, "yea but another new phone will be out by then." Who cares? You don't need every new phone that comes out. I'm still loving my original Motorola Droid with zero problems.

Unless it's a Nexus, that's probably not a smart decision.

At least they are the last few manufacturers with an unlocked bootloader.  That's a good thing especially near or at the end of the warranty or when they decide to no longer update devices.

And after my Charge, the Samsung is the one brand I'd stay away from. Having owned two Samsungs loaded with problems, no more Sammys for me. :smileywink:

The charge reminds me of my son when he stays up all night playing ps3 and you spend all morning working on him to wake up. The more you work at him the more responsive he becomes, but if you quit he goes back to sleep and you have to start the process over again.

Slow, laggy, and sometimes unresponsive. HAHA

jimfitzgerald.  I had a feeling you would say that again. LOL. Your still driving a model t, watching tv on a black & white tube, send letters instead of email, and against your own words you sport the original first model (DROID). The Droid Bionic is 5th or 6th in a long line of Droids. Anyways some of us need to get to work , travel, quicker and safer so we buy new and better. Some of us get bigger hd tv,s so we can watch theater like tv. Some of us like doc, or any other professional need to have secure corporate internet capabilities, video conference, secure document or cloud storage, etc. Most of the things  your droid dont rock and you have no issues. I have had just about every Android device put out by Verizon and still have most of em. Every single one of them have had and still have issues that havent been straightened out. So some of us dont have time to put your theory to work and it doesnt work. Show me an Android smartphone that the bugs are straightened out completely.  I also believe our phones are not as big a problem as our network 3g and 4g.

When it takes longer to fix the issues than it takes em to design it build it, and advertize it as ruler of all machines. Then charge premium for it and bill us for services that fail as frequently as they do.

People have said 4g LTE is young and will have issues and I agree on that but what happened to our 3g. I also have droid x and Dinc 2 that constantly have slow or non existant network issues.

Sorry for the rant but I am tired of that story. My Grandpa always said I never had all these problems with whatever. How would it sound if someone sitting next to you at a family funeral and said I told them not to buy that new car before they got the bugs worked out. Thats what you sound like to me!

So put your theory to rest. Because its going to bite you in rear if you ever decide you dont want to rock your OG DROID anymore.

Dude, I don't really give a flying **bleep** what you want to hear. I can and will continue to express my opinion here as long as I want. I have a 9.15 second Mustang and all the latest in most things I need or want. However, I stand by my point that for most people, putting up with all the issues of a new phone is not worth the hassle. Wait 90 days to make a judgement before you buy a new phone. I'll probably upgrade my Droid in early 2012, but I won't buy a phone that has not been out for a few months. I don't want to deal with all the issues as evidenced on this forum.

Most of the ones complaining are going to be complaining regardless of which Android  phone they have.  Android certainly isn't meant for everyone and some are slower to learn that than others.

I'll probably get the new Nexus or Razr, but I'll wait until they are proven first. It seems that most new phones have a number of bugs when they are introduced and it takes an update or two to resolve most of them.

jimfitzgerald. You might be waiting till summer or longer. For one not one Android or LTE device put out in 2011 for VZW is a proven device. And wont be until we get a consistent network. 3g has slowed down a ton since last year, and 4g hand off kills 3g signal to the phone alot. Very unstable network. I dont believe the whole blame is on the software of the device either. I believe alot is on verizon.

Anyways cant wait for your complaints. These new highend phones have alot more technology in them that can go wrong even after updates and bug fixes. Between android fragmentation and verizons network issues no phone is perfect.

I was torn between the razr or the nexus.  I ended up chosing the nexus.  I think all the devices are good, but...

If a manufacturer doesn't want to support the device anymore they should automatically do one last update to at least unlock the bootloader for people to continue to get updates whether from carrier or some other developer willing to bring updates to the device.

This is what drew me to the Nexus as it's a developers device and it will always get updated for a long time and continue support will always be there when and if I chose to unlock the bootloader.

I have thought all along that the Verizon 4G network is not yet "ready for prime time." That is another reason I have been in no hurry to upgrade. My Motorola Droid (1) does everything I need it to do perfectly (phone calls, text, email, Pandora, Slingbox, navigation). I also have a 3g USB760 that is out of contract I can use for $2 per day when I travel so I really have no reason to upgrade.
